Question by Ang3l-Uh: Eczema over my 2 year old’s eye. Any advice or tips?
My daughter has eczema over her eye. It began when she was away from me with her dad for his summer visitation last month. We have been perscribed Elidel.

Does anyone use this themselves or for their children?

Do you know of any side effects personally?

I have read alot on the internet. Her eye looks really bad. It doesn’t help that it just started getting 100 degrees here (DFW area, TX) I am putting the Elidel on her eye as directed. She can’t use a steroid cream because they have been known to cause cataracts and even blindness when used directly over the eye. So I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with this… My poor baby looks so sad

i get eczema on my eye as well. I have found that just a little bit of hydrocortizone cream will relieve it.

you said he had a scratch by his mouth…did he get in a fight he might have gotten scratched in the eye. my vet book says that the eye needs to be looked at by a vet right away because it could be ulcers, keratitis which is inflamation of the cornea, or as you said cataracts. I would seek prompt medical attention

Question by Summer: My 15 year old dog’s eye is filled with blood?
It’s almost 8:30pm so I can’t go to the vet tonight. I’m not sure what to do about his eye.

It is startling to look at: the entire eyeball is the color of blood. I can’t see the white of his eye because it’s dark red, I can’t see his pupil because it’s dark red. He ran away for an hour the other day, so maybe he got hurt then. I haven’t noticed the blood eye until now, and I am a bit shaken.

He had cataracts in both eyes, and has had extremely odorous breath for the past year or so. We took him to the vet last month but he didn’t notice anything.

Anyone have legit advice before I take him to the vet in the morning?

Call your vet and listen to the answering machine. They SHOULD have an emergency number or the number to an emergency clinic.

If they don’t, look in the phone book and see if there is an emergency vet in there… Get my vibe? He needs to get to the vet. Good luck!

Did you have him looked at by a canine opthamologist? It could be a myriad of things, many of which have no cure but can be managed with medications.

Question by chessteachr: If a 79 year old female has a “vitrectomy” because catract fell into eye is that normal?
1st doctor did cataract surgery part of catract fell into the eye(said the middle part was super hard). Then she had to have second surgery”vitrectomy” to remove it.But in 2nd operation her new lens had to be removed.Doctor has this and that excuse. Is that grounds for medical law suit?

Best answer:

Answer by Jennifer G
Actually, I work doing medical transcription for a group of eye surgeons, and I have seen it before where a piece of the original lens is retained or drops into the vitreous, necessitating the need for a pars plana vitrectomy and lensectomy. This is a risk of the original cataract surgery, but I would get a 2nd, even 3rd opinion if there have been additional complications. The fact that there was a retained lens fragment without additional complications, probably won’t make for a very strong case. (this also happened to my aunt…and they replaced the secondary lens at the time of her vitrectomy)
