Question by xfurubax94: Does my 3 year old beagle have cataracts?
My dog is fairly young. She is a beagle born with deviated eyes (lazy eyes on both—it alternates when she looks left and right). Could her lazy eyes be a reason for this strange slight gray tint in her pupils? Could this be cataracts? You can only see the gray tint when you look at her eyes at an angle from the side of her head. It is a very very transparent gray tint. Her pupil is not entirely black and clear. Am I just overreacting and I’m just seeing the lenses of her eyes? She has always had a slight depth perception problem, but I had always thought it was because of her lazy eyes.
the color of her pupils is more of a green tint when looking at it from the other side of her head. Is this just a shift in the light spectrum that displays the different pupil color?

Question by tiffers1984: 61 year old. Is she Medicaid eligible?
We live in MS. She is obese, type 2 diabetes, has a handicapped parking permit because she is 50% disabled. She broke some bones in her legs from a fall a couple years ago and now she has problems walking. She’s been widowed for 15+ years and has never made more than $ 10 an hour with two kids. She’s had 3 eye surgeries for cataracts in the last year and will have to have 3 more that are already planned. She pays rent, groceries, car payment, utilities, medical bills and has no money after bills are paid. We can afford to support her financially and have her move in with family (which will relieve the money for living expenses) but she’d have to move which would mean she wouldn’t have a job. Insurance is the only thing stopping this from happening. She’s not on disability or SS payments. We’re filling out a Medicaid application but want to know what the chances are?
Or even medicare?

I believe this person would have to be on SSD in order to get medicare before she is 65 years old or SSI for medicaid

Question by curiousin08: I have a 1 year old Neo Mastiff with an eye infection…?
well, he had cherry eye, which we had removed. We followed the vets instructions and put the antibiotic ointment in his eye for 10 days… this was about 3 months ago. Recently, in the same eye, he has developed some kind of infection and his eye looks blue as if he has a cataract or something and is discharging very gooey stuff. HE HAS AN APPT. WITH VET but i was hoping someone might be able to recognize what is going on with him. All of the websites say that 1 year is too young to have a cataract, but if thats not what it is, i just dont know. Please help if you can! Thanks!
Please don’t tell me to take him to the vet! I am going to do that! If you don’t know, it’s ok.

Sounds like an eye infection perhaps , conjunctivitis could be the cause , but there could a breed related eye issue going on here. No matter what anyone on here says the best place to get that checked out is the vets > The vet will probably prescribe stronger antibiotics .

What do you think? Answer below!

Question by shstrght: I had cataract surgery 4 years ago and laser 1 year ago..went for my check up?

Your retina doesn’t “die”. You may have a condition that needs corrected by surgery or other procedures but since the date is so far out, I don’t think it’s an emergency.

Question by SuzieQ92: I am hoping someone who has experienced this will answer. We have a 73 year old relative in another state?
who is experiencing double vision. She had a stroke in one eye many years ago, so she doesn’t see well out of that eye at all. She has been having double vision in her one good eye for over a month now. She has been to the eye doctor a couple of times, and he took her off of all medication that could cause double vision. The condition hasn’t improved.

The weird part is that she doesn’t see double in everything, but only words. When she tries to read street signs or books or words on television, she sees them double.

About 6 weeks ago, she had cataract surgery on her bad eye. Could cataract surgery adversely affected her good eye?

The doctor has ruled out any structural problems with the eye, so what could the other possibilities be that only words are seen double?

Thank you for any help you can give!
I tried to get in touch with RM, but he/she doesn’t allow e-mail. She has monocular double vision. The double vision is still there no matter which eye is covered.

1. She almost certainly has binocular double vision, meaning if you cover one eye the double vision goes away. This is by far the most common type and is caused by misalignment of the eyes (for a lot of possible reasons). If for some reason she has monocular double vision then it is usually a problem in the eye itself.

2. My guess is that she has double vision for everything (meaning the misalignment of the eyes is always there) but she only notices it when reading due to the extra fidelity needed and some irritating overlap of letters.

There’s long list of possibilities to explain the misalignment. I’d start with her ophthalmologist because there’s a good chance its related to the cataract surgery (lens replacement not at the perfect angle?). If he doesn’t know then you should ideally go to a neuroophthalmologist to help sort it out.

Edit: Monocular double vision that is present in both eyes is extremely rare but not impossible (esp. since there is a possible stroke history). I have to say that its so rare that I have some doubt that its really present but if it is then it would be due to a problem in the occipital lobes of the brain. HOWEVER, if it really is monocular double vision then I suspect it is only in one of her eyes with the eye that had the cataract surgery being most likely (a problem in that lens). Get her eye doctor to check it. If she really has bilateral monocular double vision you should have her see a Neurologist also….or, better yet, a Neuroophthalmologist if there is one in your area.

Edit 2: When you get some answers please consider coming back to leave a comment with the final diagnosis.
