Question by Jennelle: whats on my cat’s eye?
My “mutt” cat Willy (feral hybrid cat lol) is a little over a year old, in excellent health and as energetic and full of vigor as a normal cat should be at his age. There’s just one thing that’s off: he has a very thin, slightly opaque layer covering his left eye’s lens. It does not cover it evenly, more varies in thickness across the lens (at its thickest its still very transparent, and thinnest almost nonexistent) I know for a fact that it is not his nictitating membrane (third eyelid), and its not cataracts because its on the outer surface, not inside the lens. It does not impair his vision, at least not significantly. I tested his vision, covering one eye and bringing my finger close to the other, and he blinked and tried to squirm away a bit, so that was reassuring.
A friend found him among a few other litter mates under her porch, clearly only days old. Tragically, the other kittens had died from exposure and starvation, as the mother had abandoned them after she gave birth. (all the cats around my friends house are friendly with humans to a point, but all are feral and unfixed so they procreate like rabbits >_<) My guess is that the mother was too young to know what to do with the babies. Anyway, he was the only one still barely alive so we brought him inside and nurtured him back to health and after about a month I took him home. What I'm getting at is did he maybe not get the right nutrients that he needed from his mothers milk? Aaaand maybe that's got something to do with it? I have no clue I'm just shooting in the dark. Also it does not seem to cause him any pain or discomfort (thankfully). Looks like a protein build up.
Any ideas? Professional advice in particular (if i can get it) would be a great help =)

Just wanted to add that he's had it since birth, and it doesn't seem to have faded or worsened.
Also, I'm a poor student and cant really afford to go to the vet and pay a couple hundred to just deduce that he's perfectly fine..heh.. ^_^"
Of course, if i thought he was sick or otherwise in danger I'd take him ASAP. To hell with my tuition. Willy = my life <3

i cant find what he has ANYWHERE on the internet. Not on any professional website, not a photo or even a reference. Ive looked for days and cant find a crumb. T^T
I didn't post this to get abused, people. I love Willy more than anything and would do anything for him, and if i thought it was serious i WOULD go to the vet, absolutely. and fyi, just because you're not a vet doesn't mean others that use this aren't, or know what they're talking about...and unless you actually own a pet you have no clue how much vet bills cost, thanks very much. All i wanted was more of an educated guess, and if someone has encountered this before hopefully they will find my post and give their advice. so if you've nothing helpful to say.....

and uh lol yes, m'dear, he's been to the vet, and he wasn't able to tell me anything about it.
that's kinda why I'm asking here. if someones EXPERIENCED this before. and I'm glad you have amazing vet rates. cool. good for you. guess you're one of the lucky ones.
He's a perfectly healthy cat with an oddity, and I was merely curious about it. If I was actually concerned about his well being (and there's no reason to be) I wouldn't ask here, and i certainly wouldn't ask you. Isn't that kind of..just.."duh"?
my question (to simplify it down for you) is:
"what is on my cats eye?" not "OMG whats wrong with my cat is he going blind??"
.....get it?

If it doesn’t seem to be causing him any pain, discomfort or impaired vision then I doubt at this moment in time that it’s anything to panic about. I personally haven’t heard of this before but I do know that you should definitely take Willy to the vet and get a real opinion – that is where you are going to get your professional advice, not here
