Question by Indiana Jones: i had cataract surgery in may so why is it i still have a very hard time seeing in bright sunlight and dark?
ok so i had a detached retina twice with in 6 weeks back in 2008 and due to the surgeries to fix it i quickly developed a cataract.
when in sunlight everything would just look white cuz the sun was sooooo intense and when in a dim or dark place such as outside at night with only street lights it was like i was walking with my eyes closed.
i know that the sensitivity to brightness and darkness are symptoms of cataracts so i thought as did my dr that as soon as i had the cataract surgery this would go away.
well IT HASN’T and no one seems to know why.
its very frustrating cuz i had lost a little bit of Peripheral vision due to the retinal detachments so it is harder to see as wide of a range as before and the having trouble in the sunlight and darkness doesn’t help matters.
its never been easy to see in bright sunlight and darkness but it was always do able. now if i go in the sun i have to hold my hand on my forehead to see normally and hats don’t seem to help. and if i walk into somewhere dimly lit i have to grab someones hand.
I HATE THIS!
can anyone tell my why i am still having symptoms of a cataract even though the cataract is gone?
i have asked my retina specialist and my cataract/glaucoma specialist and they have no answers.
and i had the surgery at wills eye hospital in philadelphia pa which is about an 8hr car ride so i can’t very easily make an appointment for him to see me.

Question by wayne s: Are cataract operations generally successful One eye is very bad and the other is still pretty good?
Recently I found driving at night very hard. I have problems writing on the computer now as my eyes bother me. They say that this operation is not a major one, and I wonder if I will be able to see right away or will I have to have patches over my eyes? I am 70 years old now but I enjoy woodworking and writing but I seem to have problems seeing like I used to. They found that I had cataracts when I went to update my glasses. I know of only one person that has had this operation and it went well with her. I am hoping to get some encouragement. Even writing this is about all i can do.

cataract operations are simple and nothing to worry about. it’s a out patient surgery. only takes 1 to 2 hours, depending on your doctor. You have to wear a patch just overnight. They will normally do one eye than the other 2 to 3 months later. you don’t have to be put to sleep. yes you will be able to see good after the patch is removed. Sometimes they might have to do a little lazer stuff if you develope scar tissue, but that doesn’t happen very often. My son was born with cataracts and had the surgery over 10 years ago. he has almost 20-20 vision and has never had any problems. he will be 22 in Feb. Talk to your eye doctor and he can explain everything. Don’t be worried, Take care and good luck—you will be happy you had it done.

Question by B: My rat is forming a cataract? He’s still very young.?
I have a rat who appears to be getting a cataract in one of his eyes. He’s still very young so could there be some underlying cause that we’d need to get treated? I know the cataract itself won’t be too bad for him (he’s a red-eyed rat) but if something else could be wrong, I’d like to fix it.
Our other rat just had an abscess removed a week ago if that is relevant at all. They were separated for the past week and were very sad without each other.

Belief is from reading “The Secret” and the Law of Attraction.
Will have the surgery, but this idea is very upsetting.
