Question by Silly Rabbit_<3's Merlin: I think I am being very selfish with my dad’s depression.?
I’ll start from the beginning. My dad had cataract surgery on both eyes, and they haven’t completely healed yet. One eye is still a bit fuzzy and the other eye is very fuzzy. Because of his eye problem, he’s unable to work, read, or do any of the things he enjoys. For the last month or so, he’s gotten very depressed, noticeably. My mom wants me to come over more to visit him, but it upsets me to see him depressed and I don’t go as often as I used to. I know it’s really bad and selfish of me to do so, but I just don’t know how to deal with it.

What should I do?

Take one for the team!! he is your only father!! my mom was passing away from her own drug abuse.. and as much animosity as i had because of her actions and it being a self inflicted health issue.. i sat the past aside and enjoyed my sober mother for the last 4 mon. of her life.. you have to be an adult about this, we are all going to be face w. similar situations like this.. ask yourself, “how will i feel once he is gone and there was so much time i could have spent w. him.”
He can and will get worse, spend time w. him while you can, dont show him you are uncomfortable be uplifting even if it breaks you inside and you go home drained! good luck to you and your family! :)

My dog is almost 15 years old. He has cataracts and the vet is unsure about if he should get a surgery.I don’t want to put such an old dog under that much stress but it would be better if he could see perfectly.

I am not sure what to do because the cataracts isn’t that strong Right now he can still see but its not perfect. Please help me.
Thanks!
I love my dog so much and i have been w/ him since birth he is in pretty good shape but he just recovered from pancreatitis so I really dont know.

Cataracts are pretty common in old dogs. They cause the dog to lose vision slowly over time, so most dogs adjust pretty well.

Personally, I wouldn’t risk anesthetizing a 15 y.o. dog just for cataract surgery.

Question by Shaima: On a very old guineapig, do cataracts cause pain?
I have a 9 year old guineapig who is very scared of humans (he is a rescue animal from an abusive home) and he has a very jumpy scared nature.

He has had a cataract in one eye for a few months and it appear to cause him no problems, he eats fine, his behaviour hasnt changed and it just appears that he has lost his sight and he appears to not be in pain.

I resent taking him to the vets because im worried the stress will be too much and he will die as he is very old and not used to being handled or stressed.

So i just want to know if cataracts are painful and should i risk taking him to the vets?

Fortunately, cataracts don’t cause any pain. The guinea pig will lose his sight, but he will be pain free. At the age of 9, there isn’t anything the vet would do about it even if you did take him in.

All of this clouds your question, I don’t even know what’s going on. I’d ask again without clutter. We know how to use GOOGLE.

Question by NancyJean M: Can falling down very hard on the face (near eyes) cause cataracts to form in the eye? (I’m 61).?
I fell very hard from a kitchen chair and hit my face on a carpeted floor that has cement beneath it. Three weeks later my eyelid that hit against a cabinet before I hit the floor is still sore and I see some spots in my eye. Can a fall like this cause cataracts to form?
I fell off a kitchen chair and landed very hard on a carpeted floor that has cement beneath it. I hit a cabinet door latch on the way down. The result was a blackened left eye for several days and a lacerated left eyelid. This was 3 weeks ago and I still see some spots in my left eye. Could these be cataracts from the fall? The eye itself was not red or discolored; it just felt odd from the pressure of hitting it. I’m rather worried about it, now.

No, because cataracts is caused by old age or genetic problems but it’s not because of a fall. Hope this helped
