Question by kempyboi: My dog’s eye turned red! He has cataracts, please help!?
Hello,
Today while my 9 year old welsh terrier was playing with his favorite toy (a fox that he likes to shake with his head) I was watching him and playing tug. I left to get a drink and make a call, and when i came back his eye (left only) was deep red in the middle and the rims of the white area turned darker. He has had cataracts for years now but no surgery or treatment. It is only his left eye, where his worst cataract is. He does not seem to notice, when I got back he still wanted to play and is not acting abnormal. I am very concerned. What is happening, what should I do?
Thanks,
Alex

I think you should probably take him to your vet. He may have ruptured a blood vessel in his eye. It will be best to have a vet look at him

Good luck – he’s a lucky dog to have such a caring owner!

Question by Marcus: why is my cats eye changing color? It started as a small dot and now in 6 years has turned his whole eye brown?
He had a small brown dot in his eye and over time got bigger and now his once green eye is now fully brown. The “tests” I do with him tell me hes not blind, Does anyone know if this condition hurts him or what is causing this? I don’t think It’s cataracts because I’ve seen that before. Thanks in advance for any info.

My cat actually had this to once!
Her eyes were originally golden but there was a brown dot on one and seemed to get bigger over time. I never got to see it turn the whole eye as she died with the first snow. got lost and then we found her when the snow melted. I would take it to the vet. They may just end up saying its benign.

To commemorate her 69th birthday on October 1, actress / vocalist, Julie
Andrews made a special appearance at Manhattan’s Radio City Music
Hall for the benefit of the AARP.
One of the musical numbers she performed was “My Favorite Things”
from the legendary movie “Sound Of Music”.
Here are the lyrics she used:
Maalox and nose drops and needles for knitting, Walkers and handrails
and new dental fittings, Bundles of magazines tied up in string, These
are a few of my favorite things.
Cadillacs and cataracts ,and hearing aids and glasses, Polident and
Fixodent and false teeth in glasses, Pacemakers, golf carts and
porches with swings, These are a few of my favorite things.
When the pipes leak,
When the bones creak,
When the knees go bad,
I simply remember my favorite things, And then I don’t feel so bad.
Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions, No spicy ho t food or
food cooked with onions, Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals
they bring, These are a few of my favorite things.
Back pains, confused brains, and no need for sinnin’, Thin bones and
fractures and hair that is thinnin’, And we won’t mention our short
shrunken frames, When we remember our favorite things.
When the joints ache,
When the hips break, the eyes grow dim,
Then I remember the great life I’ve had, And then I don’t feel so bad.
(Ms. Andrews received a standing ovation from the crowd that lasted over four minutes and repeated encores
