Question by trayzzay: Will my eye turn gray?
Back story:
5 years ago I lost 95%(ish) of the sight in my left eye (I am legally blind in it).

Actual question(s):
Will the color of that eye turn gray like a blind person’s eyes? Will the eye loose some of its color? Or will my eyes stay the same color?

More detail:
Just in case, here is some more details about my left eye: the only sight I do possess in it is peripheral vision, and through that vision I can only see like 5%. What I do see in that 5% is dark, fuzzy, and gray. I can make out shapes and huge letters. My eye color is brown.

Other:
I don’t know if it’s in my imagination or if it is actually happening, but the color of my left eye has been looking dull and the dark black ring around the outside of the eye color (not the pupil) looks faded in contrast to my other eye.

Additional Details:
There is little more information which I can provide. 5 years ago I had a sever headache for 2 weeks, say a doctor for it and he said it was just my sinuses because I had a head cold at the time. He gave me antibiotics and sent me home. A few days later I woke up and was blind in my left eye (the headache was gone). Saw 3 eye doctors immediately (1st doctor sent me to another, who sent me to another in Philadelphia) and none of the doctors could tell me anything more than: looks like you have optic neuritis and suffered a stroke in the optic nerve as you slept, we don’t know, we’ve run every test we can think of, etc… I was told I would recover vision in 3 months time and never did and doctors told me I was just unlucky and 1% of optic neuritis patients don’t recover vision, etc. I was put on intravenous steroids for a few days and oral steroids for a bit after that. I was also told maybe it is the on set of MS, though brain scans say this is not so (at least so far, i am 24 and have them done every 5 years). I have no diseases or viruses that I know of and am “health”. My right eye is normal and was not effected. I go to the eye doctor every 6 months for routine check ups as I wear a contact in the right eye, but was told there is nothing which can be done for my left eye and there is no reason to be seen for it anymore. When I did go blind in my left eye 5 years ago (I was 19ish years old), I was on birth control pills and smoking a pack a day. The doctors said this could also be the cause of it, but they weren’t conclusive in their diagnosis, as a precaution I am no longer on “the pill.” I have also been on tons of different kinds of depression medications before it happened (since I was 12), but none were of a high dose or have been recalled for stroke or blood, etc…problems.
Currently, I am told by my eye doctor that the optic nerve is dead. I have also been told that the eye almost looks like it has a cataract, though this is not the case. I am also told I will not regain my vision.

Sorry for all the info, but I posted this question before and all I got in response was more questions. I just want to know if my eye is going to or might loose it’s color or turn gray. Will it? Might it? Any information would be great.
Thank you ;)

I’m sure you won’t because the eye itself is not dead but the nerve far behind it is… I highly doubt it will turn gray… The black outlining around the eye color is completely normal and everyone with brown eyes have it… There’s nothing to worry about!

Question by Ruxandra V: Is there a disease/illness that causes the entire eye to turn white?
Is there a disease or illness that causes ones entire eye to film over to a white?
You see so many ‘blind gypsies/mediums’ within movies that seem to have this problem. Is it just to add to special affect do such illnesses actually exist?
Prime examples are:
Storm from X-men
The old woman from The Others

There are also contact lenses that give a prime example.
I am not talking about cataracts, unless there are such severe cases and I simply have never seen them. Thanks!

It is real.

Cataracts are just that. They cloud up the lens of your eye, and appear white or milky from the outside looking in. Eventually a cataract can progress to completely blocking out light, those would be the extreme cases that make your eyes appear white.

Glaucoma can also create a similar appearance in advanced stages.

Good to get regular eye exams once you start getting older!

Question by Helpful2U: Why do blind eyes turn blue? The actual iris, NOT cataract or cloudiness. Do all blind eyes do this?

Best answer:

Answer by TweetyBird
It’s called corneal opacity. It can happen because of trauma, infection or can be congenital opacity. Not all impaired have it.
