Seemed high to me have seem some people quoting £1400 -£1800. Thanks for your thoughts

Sure is a good price – for the operating surgeons!! With respect, and depending on the age of the dog involved, unless you have this sort of money to burn, I’d not bother. The first sense, for a dog (other than maybe a sight-hound) is their sense of smell. I’ve had elderly dogs with cataracts and they have lived perfectly normal lives, obviously not seeing as well as before, but well enough that they weren’t bumping into things! Obviously their eyes were bluey, but looks aren’t everything. Personally I’d not put an older dog through this surgery, and certainly not for this sort of money, which is probably correct nevertheless.

Add – I’d always get a second opinion on the condition of your dog, in any case.

Im 20, and i know when i worked in old fashioned flourescent lights for two years thats where i got it. I went to three different basic eye doctors and they say they dont see anything wrong since its not cataracts etc. The haze gets worse in the dark but during the day I see sparkles everywhere. Would LASIK fix it??

I would go to a specialized eye doctors, ie: an ophthalmologist. “Basic” eye doctors, ie: optometrists, can only see certain things. An ophthalmologist will be able to tell if there’s anything past what an optometrist can.

Also, are you not sure you’re not having blood pressure problems and not a problem with your vision? Having high blood pressure can make you see ’sparkles’ in the daylight. Take notice next time this happens, see if you feel lightheaded or short of breath.

Hi,
Well i was born with cataract with both of my eyes and they removed it from 1 eye but not the other one.
I have been through several operations and unfortunately they couldn’t remove it and I want to see if someone else in the world has it so i dont feel alone.
My parents wont tell me much about it now since im quite young.
I cant see with it at all and its bluey and looks ugly and quite like milky
I used to wear contacts so no one can notice it but now i wear an artificial eye
If any of you have it or know someone that does have it can you please write something and how it feels so i dont feel alone

I dont personally have it but being born blind myself I know about 15 people with congintail cataracts which is what you have. inccluding some of my own cousins. some fair better than others but it sounds like your was pretty bad. all I can say is you are NOT alone get involve with national blind organizations (google some from where your from if your not from the US I can’t help you) then you’ll meet several kids with the same conditions. your lucky I have a really rare eye condition there’s only 10,000 cases in the world of which 1,000 are female of that less than 100 are under the age of 40 and I’m 19 so yeah I”M rare.

bottom line is dont lose hope and don’t and get involved with us we work better together!

As of November 2008 I’ve been missing anywhere from 2 – 4 days every month taking my dad (he’s 71) to eye appointments for cataract & laser surgery. Most of this time was taken as paid vacation days. Anyway, noone mentioned anything to me about FMLA at that time and I thought it was only available to pregnant women. A week ago, HR told me I had to file FMLA paperwork verifying my dad’s condition. I had the paperwork filled out by the doc and turned it in to HR as requested. …and now I’m worried that I actually gave my employer a reason to fire me, especially considering:
1) How slow business is. MUCH slower than normal.
2) There are major changes coming that will remove the in-house created software 100%. I was originally hired to takeover maintaining and upgrading this software. Over the 3+ years I’ve been employed other responsibilities have been added and will continue on as they are part of getting the jobs done.
Yes, I’m in an at-will state.

FMLA gives you the right to take up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave to take care of yourself or a family member who has a serious illness. It can be used in a bulk of time, like after a woman delivers a child, or it can be used in smaller amounts of time, like you have. If you apply for and are approved for FMLA, the company cannot fire you for taking leave for these conditions. These are reasonable absences and not a reason to fire you.

However, FMLA won’t protect you if there is a general layoff or shutdown or your product line is no longer sold. So, I would talk with your boss if you think the duties you now perform are at risk of not being needed anymore. It is always good to have a career plan and a way to grow your skills, and this is a good chance to have that discussion.

Simply ask him/her for advice on your skills, what opportunities there might be for training and development, and what other things she/he thinks you might be able to do for the company. Make sure you tell them how happy you are there, and that you want to continue to grow. It is great if you can find something they dislike doing and learn how to do it for them.

I keep having trouble seeing. Like as if I have something in my eyes that makes it blurry like water in my eyes but I have no water in my eyes. My eyes hurt sometimes because I have to strain to see through the blurriness. It’s not an even blurriness. It just feels like there’s something in my eyes but there isn’t. I have to keep blinking to almost, like, reset my vision. Like if Im watching TV, I’ll have to keep blinking to keep my vision clear, otherwise, my eyes get to blurry. It’s kind of milky white blurriness.

It could be cataract,refractive error or simply dry eyes.Get your eyes checked by an ophthalmologist.

I’m told that my artificial lenses (had cataract surgery in both eyes) reflect light just as cats’ eyes do. I’m very excited about this, partly because I admire cats, but also because I’m sure I can learn to position myself correctly to reflect light at will and scare the beejesus out of snotty young people.

Can anyone else do this?
Monty: My sister says they are a light blue.

I have one artificial lens in my right eye, got it as I had a bad infection after a cornea transplant.
I don’t know about being able to reflect light, but there are a few people I would like to scare the beejesus out of.

and i was wondering how can i make it go away. its been there since like march. i thought it was a sty but it hasnt gone away. i was wondering if maybe i got it when i went to my eye doctor. ( on febuary i had a car accident and my leftside of the face was the one that got messed up,the bruises went away and i look like before now!

they told me i had a cataract on the left eye and i have to go back to the doctor on october again. but the sty is in my right eye. i think i got it after i visisted the eye doctor)

im kinda curious to know if its bad or how can i make it go away.
its located inside my right eye in the lower right corner.

I am talking about intra ocular implant, where the lens of the eye is removed, and replaced with an artificial lens.
The same thing as cataract surgery does.
my qs is,is this permanent and how far is it good compared to wearing artificial lenses?

Your question is a little unclear, do you have cateracts and you are trying to decide if you want the existing lenses in your eyes yanked out and replaced with implants vs getting glasses? If so, very few people get the glasses any more because they are very thick convex lenses and look quite unattractive and cause a lot of distortion etc.

Or do you have just have nearsightedness and want some kind of implant to correct for that? If that is the case, it seems like a rather extreme solution; if you hate wearing glasses, couldn’t you just get contacts?

I was visiting my local SPCA adoption shelter and there was a new ‘bush’ kitten brought in the day before; he is an average light orange tabby kitten. This kitten’s eyes are unusually colored though his irises are a normal gold/orange color, but the pupil and surrounding cornea has a blueish tint to it. It looks a bit like cataracts but instead of being concentrated and milky looking the blue is all over, even, and incredibly light almost giving the whole eye a very light cobalt tint. The kitten doesn’t appear to be blind either, he follows moving objects well and has no problems getting around. I am just curious what this odd blue haze look could be? I’ve seen many cats in my life but I’ve never seen this specific look.

i think your cat has heterochromia, which is normal for cats
looks kinda cool actually

Ok, first of all the cataract did not come from being hit by a car. I hope you took him to the vets when that happened. What are the signs of a cataract? It has nothing to do with being hit by a car, or age. Actually, I think in dogs the pupil (black part of the eye) will be gray or bluish in color. The surgery cost will depend on the vet and how much he charges. You should call around to your local vets and find out how much they charge. You may have to take him to a specialist for that surgery possibly at a veterinary college. Also, make sure the price they give you is the total cost of the surgery and not just the surgery alone with everything else added on to it like room and board, anesthesia, food, medications etc.

I had a vet screw me like that once. He told me the surgery for my cat would be $ 100. Well when I went to pick up the cat they handed me a bill for almost $ 400! Yes, the surgery was only $ 100, but it didn’t include everything else like food, medications etc. Needless to say, I never went back, even though I had been going there since they opened up for business. In fact, he screwed so many customers that he almost went out of business.
