There is someone I know that cheated to pass the eye test to get their driver’s license renewed. He is legally blind and has cataracts. Cataracts surgery didn’t help as it just grew back and he doesn’t have the money for another surgery. He had the eye doctor dilate his eyes so that he could see around the cataracts and pass the eye test at the DMV. He has caused multiple accidents, almost hit several people, etc. Talking to him about it doesn’t do any good. I want to protect people…I mean..he could kill someone. We try to drive him around as much as we can…but we can’t be there 24/7 and he still insists on driving. Can I file a complaint somewhere? What do I do?
Because he doesn’t always report it. He has paid people off not to report it. Plus, he has hit other things besides cars…like a bear once and a huge rock another time.

Why dont you phone your local police and DMV. They will retest him probably.

I dont understand, if he’s been in multiple accidents how has he not lost his license?

who is experiencing double vision. She had a stroke in one eye many years ago, so she doesn’t see well out of that eye at all. She has been having double vision in her one good eye for over a month now. She has been to the eye doctor a couple of times, and he took her off of all medication that could cause double vision. The condition hasn’t improved.

The weird part is that she doesn’t see double in everything, but only words. When she tries to read street signs or books or words on television, she sees them double.

About 6 weeks ago, she had cataract surgery on her bad eye. Could cataract surgery adversely affected her good eye?

The doctor has ruled out any structural problems with the eye, so what could the other possibilities be that only words are seen double?

I tried to get in touch with RM, but he/she doesn’t allow e-mail. She has monocular double vision. The double vision is still there no matter which eye is covered.

1. She almost certainly has binocular double vision, meaning if you cover one eye the double vision goes away. This is by far the most common type and is caused by misalignment of the eyes (for a lot of possible reasons). If for some reason she has monocular double vision then it is usually a problem in the eye itself.

2. My guess is that she has double vision for everything (meaning the misalignment of the eyes is always there) but she only notices it when reading due to the extra fidelity needed and some irritating overlap of letters.

There’s long list of possibilities to explain the misalignment. I’d start with her ophthalmologist because there’s a good chance its related to the cataract surgery (lens replacement not at the perfect angle?). If he doesn’t know then you should ideally go to a neuroophthalmologist to help sort it out.

Edit: Monocular double vision that is present in both eyes is extremely rare but not impossible (esp. since there is a possible stroke history). I have to say that its so rare that I have some doubt that its really present but if it is then it would be due to a problem in the occipital lobes of the brain. HOWEVER, if it really is monocular double vision then I suspect it is only in one of her eyes with the eye that had the cataract surgery being most likely (a problem in that lens). Get her eye doctor to check it. If she really has bilateral monocular double vision you should have her see a Neurologist also….or, better yet, a Neuroophthalmologist if there is one in your area.

I have a cataract growing on one of my eyes. It’s like a cloudy film growing over the lens. An easy operation when it is ripe can replace the cloudy lens with a clear new plastic one.

my dog has a cloudy spot on her eye and i think its either glaucoma, a cataract or collie eye anomaly which is common in her breed. please tell me what you think may be happening or if you know any good sites where i can ask a vet online for free

Why not take the dog to the vet? Any online “vet” cannot diagnose a dog they cannot see.

first, what are some causes, besides retina, cause my retina specialist says thats not the problem (ive had a detached retina on one eye, but both my eyes suffer from night blindness). What are other reasons?

also, what are some medical ways to cure it? ive heard sometimes cataract removal, or a vitamin A diet. Is the vitamin A diet really show significant treatment?

and finally, what are ways to cope with it? Ive heard someone say that wearing yellow skeet shooting glasses helps him with driving. can anyone vouch for that? Any other techniques?

Shooting glasses cut down on reflections and glare.But Fish oil is reccomended for night vision.The Danish fishermen regularly drank it during World war 2,even though all other food was rationed and poor nutrition was rampant.

my reg vet cant do the surgery i have to take her to an ophthamologist surgeon vetinarian and i would never be able to get rid of maggie this is my baby i cant have kids so this is like my child i spoil her rotten i just wish i could get her eyes fixed so bad its pittiful to watch her run into walls some one please help

I have been diagnosed with posterior subcapsular and nuclear sclerotic cataracts. I am only 39 years old, but am practically blind at night, with nearly no depth perception and great difficulty with glare. I also have very limited peripheral vision during the day and have worn contacts for three decades for myopia and astigmatism. I was recently sent to an ophthalmologist who says I need cataract surgery, and the sooner the better. I need to choose between two options: 1) the standard procedure, covered by insurance, but that may not completely correct my vision and I would need reading glasses (not needed yet) or 2) the premium lens (crystalens) that is NOT covered by insurance but should give me better vision for near, far, and in between. Does anyone have any suggestions on the pros and cons of either procedure?

Sorry, I really don’t know that much about these fairly new intraocular lenses, but I have listed some websites under “What’s your source?” (under my answer) that will give you some more information and hopefully help you make a decision. Keep in mind that one or two of the sites are sponsored by Ophthalmology Practices or Hospitals that use the Crystalens for cataract surgery, so take some of the statements with a grain of salt.

If your regular ophthalmologist sent you to the cataract specialist, perhaps you would get a more unbiased opinion from him/her and would be more comfortable discussing your options with your regular ophthalmologist.

I’m guessing, but the reasons the Crystalens may not be covered by health insurance is the cost of the lens and/or that it is a fairly new device and long term side effects are not known. The Crystalens has been approved by the FDA.

I need help in finding a vet for my dog in the country side outside Hamilton, Ontario. All vets have a price guide that they must follow and is very expensive. My dog is 16 yrs old and has cataract in her left eye and now there’s a very small light spot on here right eye. I like to get her examined before she looses her eye sight. If anyone knows a good vet, please provide me with the information.

Ask neighbors and co-workers with pets what vet they use.

Also, try calling up some different places and asking some general questions about hours they are open, how much experience the vet has, if he’s dealt with similar cases to your dogs, and how after hours emergencies are handled. You can tell a lot about a place by how they handle simple phone calls such as this.

You can also visit the office in person to get an idea how clean the facilities are.

Hope your dog’s eye gets better.
