Question by >w<: Please help me!! I am young and I am scared that I might have get cataracts (polyopia)?
NO PEOPLE IN MY FAMILY HAVE THIS CONDITION, as far as I know.

I am only 14 years old :( (

But I use the computer all the time. I am VERY nearsighted and do not wear my glasses when using the computer, so instead, I lean closer…. But I’ve been using the internet since I was 10 or something, and it’s only been this year that I think I might have polyopia. I read about “Computer Vision Syndrome” and polyopia is one of the symptoms. I read that polyopia was a “cataract”…

PLEASE READ THIS QUESTION AND ITS ANSWER: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090102204250AACxqGg

It was only this year that I started to make the monitor’s screen darker. That’s supposed to be a good thing, right? For example, the brightness used to be 80 percent, and I reduced it to 20. The contrast, I made it 50 and I think it used to be higher before. It was like that for a while. But I noticed that it was only after that time (not right away) that I started seeing white ghost like images at the edge of the doors, when I am coming from a well-lit room, and entering a dark room. I first saw it at the edge of the bathroom (where there was no window). I thought at first it was my imagination (but I have no psychological problems at all, and am not depressed, and am not that worried about ghosts) but then I saw it all the time I had to go to the bathroom at night. Then, I also started seeing that white ghost like image not just at the bathroom, but at the edge of my bedroom door. I see it when going out of my lighted bedroom into the hallway (where there is a window, that’s why it’s not as dark as the bathroom).

As you can see with similarity, the question that I linked you too stated that his polyopia got worse over time. It was also mentioned in the question that these ghost like images show up where there is high contrast of light and dark.

Do you think it’s because my computer monitor’s contrast is higher than the brightness? (It used to be the brightness that was higher) I mean, I lowered the brightness specifically so that it would not have too much of a contrast with the background of my room.

PLEASE HELP ME!!! Please tell me what I should do to help this condition? Currently I made my computer monitor brightness 20 and contrast 20 (so they’re equal). I don’t wear my glasses because I am not supposed to wear distant glasses while using the monitor screen, but I try to wear them right now. Do you think it will help? Does it block of “radiation” that causes this?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cataract I went here and read under “Causes”. I eat a lot of fish and salt, so I don’t think I lack Iodine. It also says something about “radiation” or something… What the… is there computer radiation?? They said if the brightness of your computer is low, the less radiation. And I use LCD… “Denaturation of lens protein” what???

if your having trouble with your eyes go and get them checked
you may need better glasses
vision reduces as years go past and wearing the wrong glasses can speed up the process

I have a medical background and I suppose knowing too much can be a bad thing! I have a cataract in both eyes. The one in my right eye is BAD. The surgeon said it is “The worst I’ve seen in the civilized world.” The one in the left eye is getting worse seemingly by the day. I have no real vision in my right eye except for lights and motion. They are using Versed and fentanyl for “sedation.” I’ve neen on alprazolam and hydrocodone for years and, obviously, developed tolerances. Yes, I listed the meds on the surgery form. I was told it’s okay to be on these and still receive the IV sedation. Any opinions? Also, anyone ever had this procedure? I’m on pre-op drops (antibiotic & antiinflammatory). Any words of encouragement would be great! Thanks.
