Question by sylvia: Eye sight, my right eye is-5 and my left eye is- 3.75?
now I have a cataract in my left eye and I can hardly see at all, how fast can a cataract develop?

Although age-related cataracts progress over years, cataracts from disease can happen very fast, even in days.
Go see an ophthalmologist who performs cataract surgeries to see what your options are.

Question by Claire: My dog’s right eye is discharging alot?
My toy poodle is 15 years old. She’s had cataracts for about a year now but recently her right eye is discharging a lot. The white in her eye is kind of disapearing, half of it is completely white while the other is alot more clear, but not completely.
What could this mean?
(btw, I’m not sure if the stuff that usually comes out of a dogs eye is called discharge I just didn’t know what to call it.)

Best answer:

Answer by dutchess
At fifteen years old your dogs eyes are changing- cataracts are likely
She may also have what is called dry eye- the older they get the less likely the are to be able to make tears- try some visine to moisten the eye-
If the discharge is green or yellow she needs to be seen by a vet- this could mean an infection and need antibiotic ointment or drops.
Wipe the area with a cool wash cloth and becareful not to rub to hard.
Hope this helps.
Congratulation on having a 15 years old poodle- that wonderful.

Question by Sociopath: Foggy vision, slight reddening and halos around lights. All symptoms only on the right eye…?
…is gluacoma a possibility? I feel no pain even while pressing the eye over the eyelids. This occured about 4 days ago and the halos first started appearing after a shower. I’m just 19 so i supposed the possibility of developing cataracts can be ruled out. I had never worn glasses and possesed healthy vision.
Any suggestions?

Answer by Polly Ester
Don’t rule out the possibility of a cataract just yet. I am 26yrs and recently had cataracts removed from BOTH eyes. Although uncommon, cataracts can develop in patients as young as infants. Cataracts in younger patients develop much quicker than those seen in the elderly. They can get worse over the course of months, weeks or even days. The symptoms you described are very similar to what I experienced- foggy vision, halos and star bursts.
Go to an optometrist and explain your symptoms. Only an eye doctor will be able to tell what’s wrong with your eyes.

Question by David: My dogs right eye is weird?
My dogs right eye, the pupil area had become a hazy whiteish blue. Some days it is bigger than others. Some days it is smaller. Do cataracts change size? Does he have cataracts?

Best answer:

Answer by aussiegenes
He could also have a lesion on his cornea. Have the vet take a look to be sure. A cataract does not shrink in size. It either stays pretty much the same (incipient) or grows to maturity and then to hypermaturity if not removed.
