He thinks he may have cataracts in both eyes, with one being much worse than the other. He referred us to an opthamologist. We responded to an ad that stated their family was relocatiing and couldn’t keep him, but when we got there it was pretty much a puppy mill. They had used him for breeding and I suppose he developed this eye problem and now they were disposing of him. Anyways, my question is does anyone have any tips for housebreaking a near-blind dog? He can see some, I’m sure as he is scared to death of my kids bkes or any sudden movements. We have only had him for 3 days so I’m sure he will adjust to things eventually. Does anyone else have experience with a blind dog, and should we go ahead with the cataract surgery or just live with him being blind? Any suggestions?
Oh, and I was told the cataract surgery would cost between $ 1500-3000
Of course I would want him to see, but from what I have read there are frequently complications that can arise from the surgery itself and it is not always 100% successful (especially since the right eye has a very bad mature cataract). Just trying to weigh the risks vs. benefits from someone that has gone through the same thing.

i would go for the surgery as it would make him much happier and have a better quality of life as he is only young

I most certainly will be having these cataracts removed from the eyes of my eight year old , but i have had no experience with such. can someone please tell me what to expect, will the operation to do so be a one day occurence, or will he be away for a while, will he experience pain after the surgery, will the cataracts re occur. will he be in any undue discomfort at present. i bathe his eyes in warm water daily but do not know if i am helping or not. he is going for furthur examination late next week. could you please help with advice. this cat is very much loved.

I don’t know the answer to your question, but I’m concerned about you and your cat. So, I put…..feline cataracts….in the web search window, and got a LOT of websites to read. I didn’t take the time to read them, because I want YOU to read them for yourself.

I did notice that one of the websites says that there are many different causes for feline cataracts….so, you may want to read that one……

hospital where the out patient surgery was performed bill medicare for 16,000 dollars. I was there for a total of 2 hours. Is this not totally outrageous? Is this a normal fee?

is it like a halo effect? if so it may not have healed properly and you may need to get a check up to make sure But on the other hand PPl who have had lasik surgery have the risk of that side effect too I had lasik and loved it for about 9 months and then my vision started to deteriorate But I had no other side effects just be safe and have it checked

Recently Acquired Eye Problems Similar To Dilation-drop Effect?

what could this mean? I’ve seen a dr about minor halos, glare, blur, and starburst effect I get from light sources. I’ve got an awful dry eye problem that began right before the light sensitivity began…the light sensitivity is worse at night but noticable in the day too and I’ve been told not to wear contacts anymore because of dry eyes though my perscription is not the issue… I had several tests including an OCT and the typical check for glaucoma, cataracts, and proper eye pressure.. However, for those tests my eyes were dilated, and that simply multiplies the problems I’m having so they don’t see anything out of the ordinary in the tests. Does anyone know what might be going on??
