I was operated for foreign body removal + retinal detachment + cataract on my left eye (right eye is normal). Even after all this my vision is only 6/24 because the detachment has taken part in the central part of my vision and has left a scar. Even 2 years after the surgery i am not able to synchronize both my eye to view an object.. because quality of my left vision is so poor..

Right now I have developed a dark circles under my eyes… It has formed like a thick patch. I really dont know what to do. I went to dermatoligist and i did cosmo peel and other peels for 8 weeks but nothing worked, dark circles are becoming much more thicker.

My questions are
i) Is there any latest technology to operate my retina and bring it back to normal so that i can have 6/6 vision
ii) Seriously I would like to get rid of the dark circles. I looking like an alien with those dark circles (patches). I would like to know the basic reasons (I usually sleep more than 7 hrs a day) and the methods to get rid of the same

I am interested in joining the FBI but as my question states, I have one major setback. I’m curious if I should even begin pursuing a career in this field. I was born with a cataract in my left eye and after having it removed around 6 years ago, the doctors determined that the nerves in my eye did not develop. I am legally blind in that eye but still have some vision. Not much…I can make out objects but cannot see details. I have full peripheral vision, but again, on the left side I cannot make out details. I read that you must have 20/200 vision uncorrected, in both eyes, 20/20 corrected vision in one eye, and 20/40 corrected in the other eye. I have 20/20 corrected vision in my right eye, but somewhere around 20/2000 (I could be wrong about this number…but let’s just say it was a very high number) vision in my other eye. Is there anyway around this? Thanks.

No. You would also be excluded from every law enforcement job in the country that require driving or firearms use. Most require vison in both eyes to be correctable to close to 20/20, 20/40.

Is it possible for me to become a doctor if i have serious eye conditions..?
First of all, i’m only 14, so i’m not looking to be a doctor for another few years, but i’d like to do it when i’m older.
I’m half blind.. I was born with Glaucoma and Cataracts, have 2 valves, previous detached retina, and have had dozens of operations. I can see ok to get around, and it is improving, so hopefully it won’t be this bad later in life. I can read normal sized writing usually. Is ther any way i could do anything medical when i’m older?

I know you’ll probably all say no, but this is something i really do want to do so i was just wondering

You can’t do any surgery with those eyes. But you can do other things, like optometrist, diagnostician, pharmacist, and much more! Work hard!

Cataracts cause cloudiness in the cornea. So removing them would remove any obstruction altering color, yes.

im so scared she may have cataracts or something worse. I dont want her to lose her sight!!! she is so happy, loves looking around and seeing things and she smiles when she sees me. I am so lost. we have an appointment on april 7 but i think thats too long to wait. I am so scared. does anyone have similar situations?? what is your story? please give me hope!

A white pupil reflex is cause for immediate trip to the doctor, preferably a pediatric ophthalmologist. Go to your pediatrician if an ophthalmologist cannot see your baby. If your doctor cannot see you tomorrow, find another who can. You are right, you do not wait for something like this.

I’m myopic with a very high prescription, but oddly enough, I need a lower prescription when I read or use the computer. I’ve been wearing soft contacts for roughly 16 years. I’m a “lazy” lense user, meaning that I sleep in them/don’t take them out nearly enough and sometimes keep them longer than I should (I use two week disposables).

About 6 weeks ago I noticed a slight cloudiness to my right eye. It felt like I was looking through a slight fog. I saw my doctor, who saw nothing wrong, and then I saw the optometrist that prescribed my contacts. He did a glaucoma pressure test (negative) and said he didn’t see evidence of cataracts either. He thought it was computer eye strain or dry eyes (I work very long hours in front of a comp) and told me to rest more.

Well, I still have cloudy vision. I asked to see an opthamologist but my insurance has me waiting until later on this month. In the meantime, does anyone have an idea of what this could be? Thanks.
I just wanted to thank all of the people that took the time to answer my question. You’ve calmed me down more than you know, particularly Mr. Paul. Sir, you’ve really given me peace of mind and I can’t thank you enough. I have an appointment in 2 weeks to see an opthamologist, but in the meantime, I will take your advice.

It’s very hard for me though because I haven’t worn glasses in a LONG time and the ones I just got feel impossible to wear. I can barely see out of them (-12.50) and trying to read is impossible (Like you’ve mentioned, I need less prescription when I read and I don’t get that with my glasses). But I plan to struggle through it until I can use my lenses and I have definitely changes my “lazy lense” ways. Many thanks again.

A very good friend of mine has high enzyme levels in her eyes. She also wears contacts and sleeps in them too. She said her doctor told her to wash her eyes with tear free baby shampoo it will help clean her eyes. There is also some really good eyedrops out on the market for contact lens wearers that not only moisturizes the eyes but help remove daily buildup of enzymes. You should look for it in your pharmacy and ask you doctor if this is possibly what you are experiencing. Good luck at the doctor, hope it is nothing serious.

I am 14 years old. I went to eye doctor to get my eyes checked out for glasses. While i was at the optometrist they said i had early signs of glaucoma. They suggested eye go to a specialist so i went to an eye cataract. They told me me right eye was bigger than my left which is a symptom. He also said he has seen many kids like me come, but i should come back in 6 months to take progressive pictures to see if if this is true. Currently, I am still waiting. I have also been feeling nauseous and been seeing the “floaters” described to be a sypmtom. I have been seeing this in lines all day today, but not as much in the morning in evening. Morning was not as bad now. Can you tell me whats going on or what I can do.
i’ve been smoking pot. But not much lately. Thats why it’s “got those grapes”

I had cataract surgery on my left eye and although they were aiming for distance vision it left me short sighted – so short sighted that I couldn’t get spectacles because of the vast difference between my left eye and my long sighted right eye (Anisometropia). I managed with a contact lens in my distance eye giving me monovision. I can’t tolerate the lens well and was given a choice of re-doing my left eye or having my right eye made short sighted to match when they remove the small cataract that I have in that eye. I’ve gone for matching short sighted eyes with specs for distance but I really don’t want to be back wearing specs.

When I have IOLs in both eyes is it possible to have laser correction for distance vision?

for *MOST* patients: YES, its possible to have LASIK after cataract extraction.
