Question by X: Time to file law suit of medical malpractise?
My father recently received cataract surgery and the doctors said that his right eye will clear up, but it hasn’t for longer than they said. In short they made a fault and my father made 2500 for the surgery out of his pocket and 6000 for the insurance company to pay. We decided that if his eye doesn’t clear up in a couple of weeks we will consult a lawyer for a lawsuit. I was wondering generally for whoever knows, what is the average time we have before our claim is invalid, or how much do we have until we can file the claim? My father received the surgery in August and late July, for both his eyes, however one eye sees far and the other near. They said to change it may be more risky and he might lose his sight. So we decided to not change it. So how long do we have? Thank you, all answers are appreciated, thanks for the help.

Doesn’t sound like medical malpractice to me. No lawyer is going to touch that case.

Question by Sarasvah: Question about medical deductions on Income taxes….?
I recently had interocular lenses implanted in my eyes. Most of my cataract surgery was covered by insurance. However, I opted to have Crystalens lenses implanted (which is considered a “cosmetic” upgrade from standard single vision lenses).

The total for both of my lenses was $ 4800 (ouch!)

Can I use this as a medical expense on my taxes next year?

why not ask the doc? i had both of my lenses replaced. forgetaboutit. they will never fall out. trust me. i actually asked my ophthalmologist, as his nurse said they,d wash out in the shower. he laughed. i,ve had them since 2005, and 2007. i shower, work out, sneeze, laugh, etc. they,ve remained in place perfectly. i,m 63, and have 20/40 vision as a result of my implants. i had 20/100 in one eye before surgery.

Question by ♥2htoohorse♥: Do you think that medical research will ever find a cure for cataracts?
HI there, so I have a 20 year old appaloosa and he has a cataract in his right eye causing partial blindness. A few months ago the vet came to give him a physical and told us that we could take him to a science research center about 2 hours away to see if they could treat it. This would cost us 4000 dollars, and there would be no garantee if of his vision would come back in the eye. For the time being he is perfectly fine, but my dream is to get him to have full vision like he once had.

I am wondering, do you think they will ever find a special surgery or cure for a cataract?

I know they can do it with dogs and people, and some other animals, why not horses?

Have you heard about any horses regaining vision?

thank you everyone!

Also should i take my horse to the reseach center to do the surgery? do you think he can get his vision back?
the thing is, i dont want his other eye to get a catartact or his already blind eye to get worse, the vet said that he could become fully blind in his right eye and then it can move to the other eye.

I wouldn’t see why not because I know my grandma had surgery on her eyes for cataracts however I don’t this that they can stop it from coming back. I think they can only remove it but it does take a long time for it to come back. Normally and being that he is that old you probably would do ok with that.
