Question by itsme: White spots on a dogs eyes…dont look like cataracts?
I’m looking at adopting a dog but it has white spots in it’s eyes. It ’s a white sheep dog of some sort. I thas some black markings. Around the eyes it is very fair and pink colored. They say she is only 2 or 3 years old. They said she may be blind but she really doesn’t act like it. I have to adopt her then take her to the vet, they won’t look at her before hand, so I’m trying to decide what to do. So anyways..
She has a white spot on each eye but I have had dogs before, that were much older, that had cataracts and these don’t look like cataracts. There is no cloudiness. It’s just a spot in each eye but they are good sized spots. I just wonder if someone did something to her eyes, like spilled something in them or something. She seems so young to have cataracts. So anyone who may know a little more about this or know any thing else it could be I would appreciate it. Like I said i can’t just take her to a vet. She is at a town shelter and they don’t have anyone to look at her. Thanks

You should actually be able to ‘test’ her a little yourself to see if she is blind. The white spots could be anything without us being able to see for ourselves what you are talking about.
Depending your reason to be looking for a dog to adopt your decision should be based on what you want your new dog to be capable of? Do you plan on taking the dog jogging with you? Hiking? Just a companion at home? Maybe some obedience and agility? All these things must be considered when selecting a pet. If this dog is possibly blind, it will not work out well for hiking or jogging…or any of the doggy sports. You would have to be it’s ’seeing eye person’. So, make an educated decision based on what you will expect of your dog. Don’t make your choice simply because you are feeling sorry for the dog…that never works out for the best for either of you.

Every day should be better, and if their vision deteriorates and your eyes more operational and more or less sore information, then you need to know your office doctor immediately. Make sure the drops as instructed! user
