Question by unidetified: Good Eye Surgeon in Dallas Fort Worth, Texas? P-IOL Phakic lens?
I’m looking for a good reliable surgeon in North Texas who has P-IOL / Phakic lens operation experience. And/or a surgeon who has lots of experience with Lasik AND cataract surgery that’s close to the DFW area.

I don’t know if he has P-IOL / Phakic lens operation experience. You can call and ask. I do know he has gotten awards for his ability.
I’ve had cataract surgery in both eyes and am very happy with the results. I used Dr Keehn in Garland. He took about 17 minutes per eye. He likes to wait a few weeks between eyes, but did mine sooner since the first eye was 20-20 and the one not operated on was 20-200 and I was having trouble sorting out the different apparent sizes of the objects I was looking at. (The eye that had the corrective lens looked smaller than the uncorrected one.) I have been back and had questions and some extra checkups on the second eye that he did. Didn’t charge for the extra sessions with him. He always stops and sees you even if it is a regular checkup where he is not needed.
He is at http://www.keehnvision.com/

Question by Jake: I need a new eye lens. Lasik is not an option.?
In 1984 (when I was 4), my right eye lens was removed due to a cataract. The cataract was caused by bacteria that got into my eye due to some deceased puppies….I had touched the dirt near them and in turn rubbed my eye. At the time of my cataract surgery, the only option was to remove my lens.
I have been to five doctors to see if I could get a lens replacement over the past 26 years with no luck. A couple of doctors have said that it could be completed but that there would probably not be any improvement to my vision and it could also damage my eye even more.
Does anyone have any knowledge of new technology that may enable me to go from legally blind (20/200) in my right eye to having some, if not great vision? Thank you.

Do you have amblyopia (lazy eye) in the eye without a lens? If your cataract developed pretty quickly after your infection, you probably don’t. If you had the cataract for some time before they removed it, you may have it. Eyes that do not have a clear image during early childhood can’t develop properly. Is your eye straight? Sometimes when there is not good vision in an eye, it turns in or out. If your eyes don’t work together, improving the vision in the bad one may create more problems than it solves. There is also a good chance that the infection that caused your cataract also caused other damage to your eyes.
I would actually suggest an older technology. You should be for for a contact lens in that eye. Wearing a contact would give answers to many of the above questions. Successful contact lens wear could be a long term solution or it could give your surgeon more confidence that a secondary lens implant is a good idea.

This is a fantastic question to call and ask your doctor that did your surgeries! No one in here is qualified to tell you something like this becuase no one can see you nor do we know your case, and in most instances, like me, we are not surgeons.

Question by Khristina: I had catarct surgery in both of my eyes when i was 4. I have lens implantsments can i join the air force?
When I was 4 years old I had cataracts in both of my eyes. I had corrective surgery for each of them. I then had lens implantments in both of my eyes as well. I’m now 21 years old and have 20/20 vision with glasses. Can I join the air force? I heard that if you had cataract surgery you were immediately disqualified.
I was told to not even mention the fact that I have lens implantments. Should I not do that?

Thats a question for your recruiter. I would think it wouldnt matter. You still get to wear glass [[ BCG ]] in BCT, and your not going to be piloting so i dont see the problem, but like i said your SSG at the recruiters station can answer that. good luck

Question by impatient: where is the lens of the eye?
Is it the black “pupil” in the middle of the iris? Do they remove that black spot in the pupil in cataract surgery?

The lens is the black circle in the middle of the color of your eye… no they don’t remove the pupil; they remove the cataract.
