Question by jj.jr.: Does anyone know if cataracts come back after removing it through surgery? thank you.?

Answer by Patti C
You can develop another cataract at any time. It would all depend on your age too. Older people do develop cataracts, they are slow growing. The odds that an older person would develop another one are high.

If a younger person has a cataract, that is unusual. The chances of a younger person developing another one would depend on why they had the first one. Usually the doctor is able to help with information on cataracts in younger people.

Question by wierdeyes2000: How can I know if I have severe nearsightedness.?
I had Lazik surgery in 1998. They said I was moderate. My vision they said was L.eye 400/20. My R. eye 200/20.I had to have cataract surgery In both eyes (Jan. and Apr.-2004).My retina detached( 6-2004) causing me to have ER.surgery. The clinic that I think caused it ( which I’m not sure if they did)is saying I had severe nearsighted before Lazik .So I don’t know if my eyes were.

yes 400/20 and 200/20 is severe nearsightedness.

i think at 40/20 or 60/20 you need glasses to drive and 200/20 is considered legally blind without glasses.

Question by samplespilates: Does anyone know what corneal ulcer eye surgery for a Boston Terrier would entail?
I am getting agitated with the DVMs who seem to just want the money. First, they charge me for ointment that is not advised for a dog with corneal ulcers –and then they just do the same old thing –give a round of antibiotics, only to have it come back again in a few weeks. There is a cloudiness towards the lens that looks like the start of cataracts, but he tested negative for that –the DVM says its just a result of these ulcers . I personally think surgery is the best option for my dog, and seems like it would actually be cheaper in the long run–does anyone know how successful these surgeries are? And what do they do, remove possible irritations, such as the eyelashes?

Do a google search for veterinary ophthalmologist..with the name of your nearest large city. Most regions have one that travels around the region, visiting on certain days.
Here is good info on canine corneal ulcers:
http://www.thepetcenter.com/gen/cu.html

It even mentions the problem concerning Bosties.

Take her to the vet, don’t rely on answers from her for help with your beloved dog.

Cataract surgery is done by a specialist usually so it isn’t going to be really cheap anywhere. I would ask your vet for a referal
