Question by Alo: I can’t tell if I have a retinal tear. I am a 20 yr old male and I just had phakic IOL done last Thursday.
When I look down and have something close to my face I notice a very small shadow and can see my eye focusing on the left side of my left eye. I can barely notice this but I want to ask you if this could be signs of a retinal tear. Btw, I am very nearsided and my doctor just performed phakic IOL (cataracts surgery). What do you think?

I think only an ophthalmologist can answer your question… but most retinal tears and detachments are very painful.

Question by Sadf A: Please help, so much stress and depression, just cant take it anymore!?
I am a 20 year old college student and male. These past few years I have been through so much its not even funny. I am about to give up I need some help please!!! A few years ago my dad passed away. Then when I started college I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. A year later my vision went down hill and at age 19 I had cataract surgeries and vitrectomies to fix my vision, however one of my pupils is still dilated months later
. I have been through so much I just can’t take it anymore. The stress has caused me a terrible TERRIBLE HORRIBLE HABIT, to rip my eyebrows out. Please don’t laugh at me that is already what my mom did when I told her. I used to be told I was good looking but now I have to wear glasses all the time do to my eye surgeries and now I have patches all throughout my eyebrows. I am embarassed to talk to anyone face to face. I have tried letting them grow back, but when they do the new hairs grow all weird, pointing outward instead of lying flat against my skin. They will not grow back the same for some reason. I am so depressed because of this. Along with being ashamed of how I look, diabetes is not making this any easier. My life is a living hell. I hate waking up in the morning. I have to fill in my eyebrows in the morning like a girl. I am so humiliated and sad. The only thing positive that has happened to me these past few years is that I got a full scholarship. That is the only thing keeping me going right now, the fact that someone is paying for my education. I am so sad right now I cry almost every day I hate life! Help me please! I have told my mom but she just tells me to man up. I feel physically and mentally scarred from what has happened to me and just dont know if I can recover!

Cataracts cause cloudiness in the cornea. So removing them would remove any obstruction altering color, yes.

Question by Dimitri K: Can doctors perform cataracts surgury on both eyes @ the same time, or is it just 1 @ a time??

Surgeons can perform cataract surgery on both eyes at the same time but do not choose to, in the US at least. The reason is due to the risk of infection. Even though the risk is small, if an eye threatening infection occurs, isn’t it better to have only one eye involved rather than potentially both eyes?

you said he had a scratch by his mouth…did he get in a fight he might have gotten scratched in the eye. my vet book says that the eye needs to be looked at by a vet right away because it could be ulcers, keratitis which is inflamation of the cornea, or as you said cataracts. I would seek prompt medical attention
