Question by Tammy: My father is 63yrs, he has cataract in both eyes. he don’t qualify for medicare. Is there anything to help?
my father is 63yrs old and he don’t qualify for medicaid or medicare. Is there any financial help for my father to have his cataract surgery?

Too bad you live in the USA, the only developed country in the world without public health care or public health insurance. In any other county his surgery would be covered at no cost to him.

He will have to take out a loan, mortgage his house, borrow from relatives, get a second job or live with the blurred vision.

Question by Lovely: Does blinking too often cause cataracts? My friend said so, but I don’t believe it..?
She said that blinking too much damages the surface of the eyeball or something.. but isnt the point of blinking sweeping the dirt out of the eye and keeping the eye moist? or is she right?

No, excessive blinking does not cause cataracts. Where do people get these crazy ideas?!

Question by Elizabeth R: Can my eyes get damaged by the sun’s UV rays if my sunglasses don’t completely block light coming from above?
If I am outdoors on a sunny day and my sunglasses don’t block out light coming from above, can this be dangerous for my eyes? Often, with some of my sunglasses, if I try looking upward with my eyes I can see above my sunglasses and I can get some unfiltered light falling on part of my eyes. I have these other sunglasses, on the other hand that look like the ones worn by cataract patients or eye surgery patients(or elderly people), and they completely block out light coming from above, no matter how much I maneuver my eyes to try to look above the glasses. Are these glasses that block out light from above better than glasses that don’t block out as much light, and I’m not just referring to wrap-arounds, although I realize those are better. Thanks.

Take her to the vet, don’t rely on answers from her for help with your beloved dog.
