Depends. If the vision loss is from cataracts, then his vision can be improved from surgery. Vision loss from glaucoma, however, cannot be reversed. If the vision loss is from diabetic retinopathy, surgery may or may not help. He needs to see an optometrist for a dilated eye examination to determine the answer.

Question by marabdl: Mother is a diabetic and insulin depended; she got medicaid cut off and now she has cataracts..?
Mother had medicaid and was diagnosed with diabetes. The lady in charge of the medicaid cut her off knowing she was depended on insulin. It’s been over a year since she’s taken insulin and she recently started having vision problems. She went to the eye doctor and he told her she has cataracts forming in both her eyes and her health is failing. She recently lost her job because her vision and health have caused her problems. Should I contact a lawyer?

Question by naturalized: did any of you ever have the corticosteriod injection in the eye for diabetic retinopathy?
dear all, my mother has diabetes for 15 years now. recently we got to know about her diabetes retinopathy and its fast deteriorating. the doctors have offered laser treatment and the corticosteroid injection. as much as i have read online it seems that the corticosteroid treatment hardly has any information or studies done. i was wondering :
if any of you have undergone the steroid treatment,
how long ago did u have it,
how frequently did u have to repeat it,
and did u develop any cataract and/or glaucoma cos of it?

any of you had the laser treatment done, then please tell me about your experience from that. how r u doing now? what r the side effects or long term effects? if someone gets worse since the laser treatment what options r there then? the more details you have the better for me. please please let me know as much as you can. we r so worried for her. we need to come to a solution ASAP. thank you all for your answers and time.

god bless you all with good health.

Question by angel pie: I have diabetic retinopathy. Anybody else?
I was diagnosed with proliferative (sp?) diabetic retinopathy about 2 years ago. My eyes no longer have room for any more laser treatments. I had a vitrectomy on my right eye and the surgery did not work. (I only have central vision now in my right and it’s at 20/200.) I have had the cataract removed in my right eye as well. They now want to do the vitrectomy on my left eye. I don’t want the same thing to happen. Any suggestions?

Question by Sonata: Cataracts in Diabetic Dog?
Has anyone on here had a dog that is diabetic and has developed cataracts in their eyes?
Our dog has cataracts and we are trying to figure out the possible cost of the removal of them. We know that we would have to get with a ophthalmologists, to find out if it will do any good to do the surgery and the final cost of it, but are wondering if anyone has an idea of what we can expect?
Any info is appreciated thank you in advance.
