Question by Animal Lover: My dog has developed cataracts in both eyes? Can this be treated? How?

I’m totally sorry to hear that. I believe it’s treatable but not without expensive surgery. At this point, you would probably look at the age of the dog and decide if it’s worth the money. I know they are like family members and mine is like that too but if he was up in years, I might find it hard to spend a lot of money on a surgery when he might not have much time left. That’s my .02

Question by Thomas A: Old fish has developed growth on top of cataract.?
I have a 10 year old Hatchet fish. I noticed it had cataracts about a year ago. Within the last week it has developed a growth on top of the cataract (its eye.) It looks exactly like a small white grain of sand and is also about the same size. It is not ick. Has been suggested that it could possibly be a tumor. Any other suggestions as to what it is and what to do will be greatly appreicated.

Most likely it’s a continuing response to the thickening and hardening of the lens and inner eye fluids. It’s remotely possible that it’s a tumor, but very highly doubtful. The lens of the eye contains no blood vessels and is a difficult environment for tumor growth.

My vet has just confirmed as I suspected that my rabbit has a cataract in its eye. This in itself is not unusual, but the fact that it appeared full blown one day is very rare. My vet said she had never seen one that didn’t develop gradually.
We interact with our rabbit every day, and we like to watch her playing in her run, so I am sure that this condition is not one that has gone undetected due to neglect or inattentiveness.
I just wondered if this has happened to anyone else.
