Question by rachel: What could be wrong with my eye?
Sometimes, at least during the day more noticeable then at night, my right eye has dull color vision.
I don’t think I have a cataract cause it doesn’t appear to be yellow or clouded. But when I look through my right eye its just really dull in color and sometimes almost black and white. There has been only one time in which it was really bad and noticeable though.
I plan on telling my eye doctor but I just want a path to maybe know what it is so I can look it up first before talking to my eye doctor about it and so I have an idea of what it is.
If anyone has experienced this let me know I’d like to know what you did about it.

Question by Ferret Face: Could my dog be developing cataracts?
I have a Chihuahua/Beagle mix that will be 18 in January. She’s always been in perfect health (other then epilepsy which she is medicated for) and recently going deaf. However, recently I’ve noticed that her eyes appear to be a blueish color. The only difference I notice in her is that she hesitates to go outside when I open the door, I’m not sure if that’s because of her sight, or something else.

At her age I’m sure cataracts are normal (right?), but I’m wondering if she should see a vet about it and whether there is some sort of treatment I could get for her.

Also, are cataracts painful?
Thanks for any help!

Question by lovemybucks: 5yr old Maltese has bluish white pupils that dialate back and forth. Could he be blind or have cataracts?
We just rescued “Zoey”, he was going to be euthanized at the animal shelter. :( He is a beautiful 5 year old boy. The best dog you could ever have! He has not had one accident in the house yet! We are hoping that he is not blind, but he will walk into things quite often. We have been doing some research on cataracts and blindness in dogs. His eyes look like the pics of those taken of cataracts. He has a vet appt. this week coming up. I just didnt know if anyone has any dogs that have cataracts to help possibly shed some light on this for us. This is our first inside dog and we are just totally in love with him. If he does end up being blind, he will only be loved more…if that is even possible?!

Question by danielle: my dog has a hazy ring around both eyes, on the eyeball, i went to the vet and they said it could be cataracts

Answer by TKS
Cataracts come with age, just like it does with people. Diabetes Mellitus can also cause it. Cataracts can be removed by a specialist, but since the lens isn’t replaced (since we can’t do an eye test to see which one would work the best), it’s usually best to wait until they are very opaque. Cataract removal is expensive and I personally don’t know anyone who has actually had it done.
