Question by ShadowCape: My dog’s left eye is cloudy?
I have a cocker spaniel about 2 years old. I just notice that her left eye is cloudy and i think she can’t see on it. Gonna bring her to the vet tomorrow. And i think it’s cataract. Anyone experienced this before and had it remove so their dog gained it’s sight again?

Question by Schmabrador is BROWN: Cloudy eye? Thoughts?
So last weekend Remi was a little squinty in his left eye. We’d been training all day, and it was a little dusty, so I figured it was just something in his eye. I cleaned it gently with a warm, wet wash cloth and it immediately seemed to get better, and no squinting the next day. Yesterday I was looking at him and he has a bit of cloudiness in that eye. Not the entire eye, and doesn’t look like cataracts, but definitely something. His vision doesn’t seem impaired, I covered his other eye and he was still able to follow my hand, even at a distance. There’s no redness, itching or other sign of irritation, just a bit of cloudiness in the lower right portion.

He has an apt for the vet tomorrow- I don’t mess around- but I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or experience about what might be going on here.

Thanks!

It’s quite possible that he has a scratch on the cornea. The vet will run some dye into the eye so he can look at the cornea for an abrasion. If it is a simple scratch, drops might sort it out, but scratches can go to ulcers which is a bit more complicated – but treatable.

Don’t delay – eyes can’t be messed with and the sooner you get your vet to check what’s going on, the better.

Question by meagan s: My cat has anemia and one of her eyes is cloudy, almost like it has cataracts. Is it an emergency?
My cat was diagnosed with anemia (low red blood cell count) on Thursday, with a level at 14%, regular cats are supposed to be around 25+%. However, she improved, to 15% after one day with steroids. She is taking medication right now, and we are bringing her back to the vet in a few days, but today I noticed that one of her eyes is glossy, opaque, cloudy. It almost looks like cataracts, but her other eye is perfectly normal. Her behavior is mildly the same (she is eating, grooming, but still sleeping alot). Should I take her to the emergency vet or wait the two days and see if her condition worsens? What is the cloudiness, and is the anemia worsening? I’m worried that her overall health is deteriorating rapidly even with medication. :(

Also, what should we expect with anemia, I’m worried we may have to put her down.

Any help will be VERY much appreciated.
my cat is only 2 years old. I don’t think its actually cataracts, but a glaze similar to it.

How old is your cat? Cats start t form cataracts around 13 years. If your cat is not near this age, I suggest calling your vet and ask him if this is ok or not before going to the emergency vet. If it goes away in the next couple minutes, you probably have nothing to worry about.

Question by BoomBaby: Question about cloudy vision and possible dry eye?
I’m myopic with a very high prescription, but oddly enough, I need a lower prescription when I read or use the computer. I’ve been wearing soft contacts for roughly 16 years. I’m a “lazy” lense user, meaning that I sleep in them/don’t take them out nearly enough and sometimes keep them longer than I should (I use two week disposables).

About 6 weeks ago I noticed a slight cloudiness to my right eye. It felt like I was looking through a slight fog. I saw my doctor, who saw nothing wrong, and then I saw the optometrist that prescribed my contacts. He did a glaucoma pressure test (negative) and said he didn’t see evidence of cataracts either. He thought it was computer eye strain or dry eyes (I work very long hours in front of a comp) and told me to rest more.

Well, I still have cloudy vision. I asked to see an opthamologist but my insurance has me waiting until later on this month. In the meantime, does anyone have an idea of what this could be? Thanks.
I just wanted to thank all of the people that took the time to answer my question. You’ve calmed me down more than you know, particularly Mr. Paul. Sir, you’ve really given me peace of mind and I can’t thank you enough. I have an appointment in 2 weeks to see an opthamologist, but in the meantime, I will take your advice.

It’s very hard for me though because I haven’t worn glasses in a LONG time and the ones I just got feel impossible to wear. I can barely see out of them (-12.50) and trying to read is impossible (Like you’ve mentioned, I need less prescription when I read and I don’t get that with my glasses). But I plan to struggle through it until I can use my lenses and I have definitely changes my “lazy lense” ways. Many thanks again.

A very good friend of mine has high enzyme levels in her eyes. She also wears contacts and sleeps in them too. She said her doctor told her to wash her eyes with tear free baby shampoo it will help clean her eyes. There is also some really good eyedrops out on the market for contact lens wearers that not only moisturizes the eyes but help remove daily buildup of enzymes. You should look for it in your pharmacy and ask you doctor if this is possibly what you are experiencing. Good luck at the doctor, hope it is nothing serious.
