Question by Jamie: blurring in the eye along with improved close vision in diabetics – early stage cataracts?

Best answer:

Answer by Gary B
Probably not.

More likely the result of high blood pressure (caused by diabetes) AND nerve damage caused by high blood sugar.

GET THOSE BLOOD SUGARS NORMAL!! KEEP them that way for 6-12 months. If the problem goes away, it is NOT cataracts.

better still, make an appointment with an ophthalmologist

Question by bigsetzerfan: My left eye hurts when I focus on something that is close to my eye?
I have had a lot of surgeries on my left eye. I have two sceleral buckles, vitrectomy, cataract lens replacement and many laser treatments for a detached retina. I have had this problem with the pain when I focus on something that is close to my eye for a while but it seems to be getting worse. I can not pinpoint when it started so I am unsure what caused it. If I focus with each eye individually there is no pain but if I focus with both eyes I have the pain in the left eye. Any help would be appreciated.

When you focus with both eyes open, you must not only FOCUS the eyes correctly but you must also CONVERGE the two eyes so that they both point to exactly the same near point. This requires not only focusing of the internal muscles of the eye but also you must stimulate the medial rectus external ocular muscle of both eyes so that they will turn inward. I wonder if the contraction of the left medial rectus is causing pain at the insertion point on the left eye. If you have inflammation or scarring in or around this insertion point then that could be possible.

Question by Miss*Blue: If you have cataracts in one eye, would vision be the same as if normal seeing ppl were to close one eye.?
Hope you understand what I mean. If I have a cataract in one eye, would I see – as If i’ve got one eye closed?

Can someone look better if you have a cataract in one eye and then have the surgery and the look bad because you can see them properly.

Weird question but I am 100% serious! I dont have a cataract (obviously or else i’d know)

Thanks heaps! :) sorry about how stupid this question sounds. heh.
Need to clarify what i mean.

If you have a cataract, you see someone and think they are good looking because you can’t see them 100%. Or chances are they’d just look the same as if you had pefect vision
p.s it’s only in one eye.

Thanks for your answers already :)

It depends how bad your cataract(s) is/are.

If they aren’t bad, you can see everyone and everything pretty much normal.

If they’re bad, you may see them well enough, but it would be tunnel-vision.

Question by youknowregular106: Are there special glasses that helps you see real close?
My mother has to renew her license and she has to pass the eye test at the DMV. She has cataracts. Doctor doesn’t recommend surgery, but she may not be able to pass the eye test even with glasses. Are there special non-obvious eyeglasses that can help her pass?

Telescopic, bioptic lenses are too obvious. She can drive, and there is another procedure she can still do to renew her license, but it’s a hassle.

If she can’t pass her driver’s test with regular glasses she shouldn’t have the right to drive. I don’t want a 80 year old person going 30 mph on the highway.

Belief is from reading “The Secret” and the Law of Attraction.
Will have the surgery, but this idea is very upsetting.
