Cataracts Treatment

Question by yuyi: Does the white on my dog’s pupils, mean that it’s cataracts?
I’ve noticed lately that my dog’s eyes, whenever there is light, it looks that there is white in her pupils.

I know that the same condition occurs on aged people, so, I guess my dog that is 13,5 years old can have cataracts as well?

I will definitely visit the vet asap, I just need your opinion and if you ever faced a similar situation with you dog.

It’s not a specific breed… we had found it on the street many years ago and we helped it.
It’s looks like a blue cloudy color, white is a general word for that.

I think some herding breeds have that and it’s normal.

I see blurry / double from a distance. Up close no, and when I squint it goes away. I’m 13 years old.
It’s in both eyes, it’s light blur from a distance only and it’s only bad enough so that you can’t reconize detail but when I squint most of it takes away. Not nothing big that effects me badly. I also notice shines / crystals coming from sources of light such as a lightbolb as if you were to look at a lightbulb while your eyes were watery. Is this something I should worry or panic about?
why don’t you think this is cataracts, I am in a bad state of anxiety and fear at the moment. If a little thing appears in my vision that’s probably normal (Like looking into the light, then into the dark then it leaves a blob that fades away quickly) then I panic bad.
So please give me encouraging words, BUT THEY MUST BE TRUE! What can make me go blind all of a sudden is their any disease or what ever that can just make me go blind fast?

The symptoms told by you seems like that of cataract. This particular eye disease mostly affects adults.However, it is not restricted to them. It might occur in adolescents as well. See the eye doctor. Cigarette smoke can also help cataracts to form.

I’m fairly certain I have one in my left eye. And I’m pretty sure I got it from wearing my contacts too much. I moved out of my house a couple months ago and my grandmother threw my glasses away. So I’ve had no choice but to wear the same contacts this whole time, and I don’t have much chance to take them out unless I happen to be at a friend’s house who has solution for them. So I wear them for days or weeks at a time. My eyes aren’t hurting or anything, but I’ve clearly developed a problem in my left eye. Part of it is really blurry with or without contacts and it’s getting worse. I don’t really have a ride to the doctor, but I’m working on getting there. And I can’t take my contacts out since I don’t have glasses and I can’t see to save my life without them. My insurance should cover an eye exam, but I don’t think it will cover glasses yet. And I’m flat broke, in debt actually, so I couldn’t buy any. I’m wondering how bad it would be if I kept wearing contacts? At least until I find a job and buy glasses… :/

You should probably try to get an eye exam and glasses ASAP, before you mess your eyes up even worse, it sounds like you are doing all the stuff they tell you NOT to with contacts.. If you can manage to scrape together enough dough, or insurance for the eye exam, somewhere cheap like Walmarts (they also have some pretty cheap glasses too). Or, you can take the prescription and order glasses on-line at www.zennioptical.com. You could get single vision glasses for like about $ 20; bifocals for like $ 35. You also need to know your interpupilary spacing to get the glasses, normally this is only done when they fit you for glasses (not part of the eye exam). You can have a friend measure it for you with a ruler while you look straight ahead. It is the distance between your two pupils (on center) in millimeters. (Sometimes it is easier to do the measurement by measuring from the left edge of the left pupil to the left edge of the right pupil (same distance, but easier to measure). You need a credit card to order, if you don’t have one, you might be able to get a friend to order them and reimburse them.

I have a Chihuahua/Beagle mix that will be 18 in January. She’s always been in perfect health (other then epilepsy which she is medicated for) and recently going deaf. However, recently I’ve noticed that her eyes appear to be a blueish color. The only difference I notice in her is that she hesitates to go outside when I open the door, I’m not sure if that’s because of her sight, or something else.

At her age I’m sure cataracts are normal (right?), but I’m wondering if she should see a vet about it and whether there is some sort of treatment I could get for her.

Also, are cataracts painful?

yes 18 she could be getting cataracts and i cant say for sure but i don’t think they are very painful
