Question by Alo: I can’t tell if I have a retinal tear. I am a 20 yr old male and I just had phakic IOL done last Thursday.
When I look down and have something close to my face I notice a very small shadow and can see my eye focusing on the left side of my left eye. I can barely notice this but I want to ask you if this could be signs of a retinal tear. Btw, I am very nearsided and my doctor just performed phakic IOL (cataracts surgery). What do you think?

I think only an ophthalmologist can answer your question… but most retinal tears and detachments are very painful.

Question by Sadf A: Please help, so much stress and depression, just cant take it anymore!?
I am a 20 year old college student and male. These past few years I have been through so much its not even funny. I am about to give up I need some help please!!! A few years ago my dad passed away. Then when I started college I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. A year later my vision went down hill and at age 19 I had cataract surgeries and vitrectomies to fix my vision, however one of my pupils is still dilated months later :( . I have been through so much I just can’t take it anymore. The stress has caused me a terrible TERRIBLE HORRIBLE HABIT, to rip my eyebrows out. Please don’t laugh at me that is already what my mom did when I told her. I used to be told I was good looking but now I have to wear glasses all the time do to my eye surgeries and now I have patches all throughout my eyebrows. I am embarassed to talk to anyone face to face. I have tried letting them grow back, but when they do the new hairs grow all weird, pointing outward instead of lying flat against my skin. They will not grow back the same for some reason. I am so depressed because of this. Along with being ashamed of how I look, diabetes is not making this any easier. My life is a living hell. I hate waking up in the morning. I have to fill in my eyebrows in the morning like a girl. I am so humiliated and sad. The only thing positive that has happened to me these past few years is that I got a full scholarship. That is the only thing keeping me going right now, the fact that someone is paying for my education. I am so sad right now I cry almost every day I hate life! Help me please! I have told my mom but she just tells me to man up. I feel physically and mentally scarred from what has happened to me and just dont know if I can recover!

Question by Renard: Please help eye doctor can’t find anything wrong with my eye?
I have been seeing double for the last 2 years and the doubling of my vision only happens in dim light and never in a well lit area. It can also appear as triple or multiple vision in both of my eyes (But again only in dim lights or when there’s a light object with a dark backround). Also i have been seeing halos and glares but i didn’t know when they started. One last thing is that my vision is cloudy when i’m looking at a light source and the cloudiness moves along the light source as i move my eyes. I have been to the eye doctor twice and found nothing wrong with my eyes. Everything else is ok with my eye. I have 20/20 vision and no other health problems. And i don’t stress my eyes out and also i get enough sleep. Can anyone please tell me what might be causing my vision problems and the doctor said it can’t be cataracts. I’m only 15.
I am not stoned or hallucinating. Please help. No one else can help me =(
Please help..your answer might save my life!

Double vision at nighttime but normal vision during daylight?

Well if your eyes aren’t able to point in the right direction then it can be ONE of the causes of double vision.

When you walk at night do you feel less relaxed than at daytime? its a good idea to ensure you dont alarm yourself unnecessarily. So if you know your eyes can turn and move effortless (without any difficulty) then that might rule out eye muscle issues. At nighttime pepole usually use their peripheral vision more because the central part of vision is less effective in dimly lit surroundings Do you have issues with everything appearing too dark? Do you think everything appears darker than for others? that might be worth asking about.

The cloudiness of vision sounded strange. If you are researching it try focusing on that as well as the double vision aspect.

Nowadays websites are very clever and can help diagnose many conditions. (But obviously talking to someone face to face will always be more effective.)
You can try putting in your symptoms and see if any results are worth investigating:

Also dont restrict yourself to the opinion of one professional. Try to find someone who may be able to give an alternative diagnosis. This is because you cant expect just one person to be able to diagnose ALL medical problems out there.

Question by Ms. Moonbeam: Why Can’t You Have Cataract Surgery As Soon As They Begin To Form??
Why is it the doctor tells you that you have the beginning stages of cataracts but they have to be “Ripe” before they can remove them. Why do we have to be almost blind before they will do the corrective surgery?

Mine might be in the beginning stage but my eyes are blury even with my glasses on. Why won’t the correct the problem now? And just what does “Ripe for Surgery” Mean?

Please help answer this. I would not mind paying to have my vision corrected now but they say you cannot do that either. Do you have to wait for your Insurace to pay?

Best answer:

Answer by reallyits2sweetiesnow
There used to be a time that cataracts weren’t removed until “ripe” however that isn’t the standard now. A procedure called phacoemusifacation is used now and “ripe” isn’t really an appropriate term for any physician to be using. Cataracts may be surgically removed anytime.The patient must meet certain visual qualifications for insurance to pay. Additionally, it may be in your interest to ask about deluxe intraocular lenses if you decide to proceed with surgery.

Question by ★J a m ! e★: My parents’ dog’s eye is foggy, blue, and she can’t open it?
I am prepared to get flamed, attacked, and harassed here. I know how you dog thread people are, haha. So quick to assume! o: Now… I know it’s probably one of three things. Cataracts, glaucoma, or an eye infection. She’s about 1 – 2 years old and it appeared a few days ago. I told them they should get it checked and of course they respond, “she’ll be fine,” but now when she rubs at it she whimpers and howls. I know, they are not fit dog owners. At all. My dad claims he will call the vet when he gets back from Christmas shopping with my mom, what could she have? & is there a way to soothe it until then?
@Z

Yes, so quick to assume and start running mouths. (Not YOU, I mean all the dog thread trolls here) If I make an appointment I will get in trouble by my dad and he will probably freak out and cancel it or something, so again, so quick to assume things / things are okay to do. & no, they probably wouldn’t bring me in either.
@Z

Rofl, I kind of know she needs the vet care already, and yes most teenagers that aren’t old enough to work are dependant on their parents! :D Before I even considered coming here I already left them a message telling them she’s probably going to lose her vision, they haven’t called back. I don’t get an allowance (even when I do chores) and I don’t beg for anything…(assumingggg again) You don’t have to teat me like a child, I know you’re probably older than me but, honestly.
@ More Breed Collie
“When ALL relevant details are not included in a question, how would you consider an answer to be “quick to assume”? There’s nothing “quick” about it. The asker clearly failed to provide the relevant details, so what is one supposed to do? We do not have crystal balls, we are not psychic. The only thing left is to assume.”

Well it’s called common sense, Z is a perfect example. Saying, “Give up your allowance for a year if you have to; offer to do all the chores in the house. Beg like you do when you want an xbox,” when she has no idea how my family works. Stuff like that, so calm down.

And I asked a simple, REALLY EASY question, “what is it” and “can I soothe it until then”… how am I not giving relevant details and how do you not get it? The questions are clear, you guys are just unhelpful. I already called the vet and she said she can’t say without seeing the dog, another issue. I am not old enough to drive and don’t have a liscence. I told them to make an app
@ More Breed Collie

Continued… I told them to make an appointment already… good lord, no one has yet to answer my questions except for your last statement on how to help ease the pain temporarily. Thanks for that at least.

Answer by Larry E
It’s real possible she got something in it or possibly got it poked. Cataracts and glaucoma aren’t painful. As you already know she needs to see a vet but for now if she will let you open it up and see if you can see a foreign object in it.
