Question by Liz: need an easy way to put my dog asleep?
I need an easy way to put my dog asleep. She’s a 15 yr old lab shepard mix, she has cataracts on both eyes an can barely see. However, i dont have the money to take my dog to the vet to have them put her down. What is a cheap an painless way to do this on my own?

Question by Vera Lynn: Put asleep during eye muscle surgery?
I am having eye muscle surgery in a couple months. It’s pretty much a 15 minute outpatient deal, but they are trying to pressure me into being put to sleep for it. I thought that it would be like being put to sleep during wisdom teeth extraction, not a big deal. But they are going to put me under so deep that they are going to have to put a breathing tube down my throat! I am terrified now. I want to know if anyone else has had this done and if you were allowed to stay awake or not. I think it’s ridiculous to put someone under so deep just for a small surgery like that. I had cataract surgery at 13 and was awake the whole time. Thanks everyone.

i had lazy eye as a child (8). it was do to one of my eye muscles being to big. they gave me the same opption. really, it’s better if they put u to sleep. if your awake, there’s a chance that they wont numb you enough and you’d end up feeling them cut into your eye lids. what they did with me was, at first they gave me laughing gas so i would calm down… >.< it was funny at the time, but i got some ebarrising pic out of it. so i dont recomend that part. but after they gave me the gas, they put me under. and yes, i did have a breathing tube down my throat. thats because, when ur down, its like your in a coma. dont worry, its a self induced one, so they can pull you out of it to. so i deffinetly recomend getting put asleep for this. also, make sure you have a lot of ice packs for after the surgery cuz it hurts like hell.

Question by Megleam: Are you awake or asleep during cataract surgery?
gotta get the surgery soon and just curious

Answer by Contact Lens King
You are definitely awake during this surgery. New surgical techniques developed within the past 15 years have brought about the foldable intraocular lenses which allow the surgeon to make a very small incision through the cornea to remove and replace ones natural cataract lens. On average the surgery takes less than 15 minutes and there are no more sutures used to close off the incision. It is truly remarkable how fantastic this surgery has become. Vision will be good within days and excellent within 2 weeks. This is a far cry from cataract surgeries of the past where being an outpatient case would have been a dream. Don’t worry for this surgery. It will go extremely well.
