I know that shingles is a secondary manifestation of the chicken pox virus, but thought you only had those lesions on skin (the skin nearest the nerve where the virus was previously dormant). However according to this website,
Shingles patients are infectious (resulting in chickenpox), both from virus in the lesions and in some instances the nose and throat.
Shingles is more common and more severe in patients with poor immunity. Blisters can occur in more than one area and the virus may affect internal organs, including the gastrointestinal tract, the lungs and the brain.
Since it can affect the internal organs also, I’m sure if can affect your eyes. I wish you the best!

A congenital cataract means a cataract you were born with. It could be anything from barely noticeable to severe. It won’t change over time, so if your eyes are fine now then nothing will change.

You can develop another cataract at any time. It would all depend on your age too. Older people do develop cataracts, they are slow growing. The odds that an older person would develop another one are high.
If a younger person has a cataract, that is unusual. The chances of a younger person developing another one would depend on why they had the first one. Usually the doctor is able to help with information on cataracts in younger people.

Question by Chels: Does anyone have any experience with dogs with cataracts?
My husband and I have found a dog we’ve fallen in love with. She’s a 1 1/2 year old Siberian Husky with juvenile cataracts. She gets around well for now and you can hardly tell.
I’m just curious if anyone has had experience with a dog with cataracts? Did you end up having surgery or did you adjust your home for the dog or anything of the sort?
We have a dog already who is blind in one eye. We adjusted out home for her (Bumpers on the corners of the wall, we got rid of out clear glass tables, placed her food in her crate which is in an area where the floor is uniquely textured) and she gets around just fine. People never even know she’s partially blind.
Thanks!

if your house is already adapted to the partially blind dog, then i think she will be fine as is. however is her condition worsens (running into walls etc.) i would consider the surgery. good luck with the dog

Question by Rick46: Anyone had experience with a blind rabbit?
Our 10 year old male bunny is going blind due to cataracts in both eyes. Due to his age and the fact that he has had pasteurella for 4 years, he is not a candidate for surgery. He continues to eat well and responds to our voices. We are wondering if he can still have a quality remainder of his life or if it would be best to put him to sleep.
Cooking him is not an option that we would consider.
