Question by Susan: Cataracts at 59 yrs old after corneal erosion problem?
1 year ago had corneal erosion in left eye, cause unknown, treated with steroids for eye by opthamologist. since then eyesight got real bad. re-examined by opthamologist, said need surgery for cataracts in affected eye-likely caused by steroid treatment. right eye has gone from near sighted to far sighted and affected eye just hard to see out of- with any glasses or correction. (also, i tested negative for diabetes). since both eyes seem to have something changing, wondering if it could be anything but cataracts causing problems and changes and should i get a 2nd opinion before surgery. no insurance so all out of pocket.

Question by Black: After Cataract surgery what holds the new lens in place?
Is it suction, a vacuum, glue, auto-natural grafting of some kind or even Magic? What exactly hold the new lens in the proper place inside the eye after Cataract scalpel surgery? And please, we all know it is NOT duct tape.
Good grief, any chance you could append that into grade ‘normal’ English? Why do Brainy-achs have to speak or write like they just stepped out of a clinical text book?
But, thanks for that link, it was helpful.
Seals – Thanks for that pic. Now that was very helpful and understandable. *Grins*
The first answer was also very helpful if not a bit anagram-ish while filled with medical terminology only another Doctor could understand.
I love simple explanations like Seals.

* ris supported PIOLs: this type is gaining more and more popularity. The IOL is attached by claws to the mid peripheral iris by a technique called enclavation. It is believed to have a lesser effect on corneal endothelium.
* Sulcus supported PIOLs: these IOLS are placed in the posterior chamber in front of the natural crystalline lens. They have special vaulting so as not to be in contact with the normal lens. The main complications with this type is their tendency to cause cataracts and/or pigment dispersion.

Question by Crazyinlove: Excessive Tearing after Eye Trauma?
3 weeks ago I had a foreign object in my cornea (metal burnt to my cornea) I had that removed twice by my eye doctor. It has been 5 days since my last scraping, the pain went away, but everytime I drive or go into the sun my eyes tear like crazy. Is there anything I can do? I already wear sun glasses and the cataract glasses (real dark)

It sounds like your eyes are just trying to protect themselves from future injury. It appears you are doing everything you can.
GOOD LUCK!
