Question by seven nyne: How does the Dr.test for cataracts?
I have been having a lot of trouble driving a lot at night lately. I go to to an opthamologist and get a dilated eye exam every year, but I always forget to talk about night driving because I rarely drive anyway, but when I do its an issue (only at night). My question is if I did have cataracts they would notice it in the exam right? Or do they have to do a test specifically for cataracts?

Dilation will detect cataracts, so if you are having a dilated exam your doctor should be able to see if any are forming. Having glare difficulties at night are common, especially if you have other health issues at play. Best thing to help correct this is to get some eyeglasses with an anti-reflective lens coating, and possibly a yellow amber tint.

Question by spirit: why is my unoperated eye larger than my surgical eye?
i had cataract surgery november 11th. my eye is healed and has 20/20 vision. last night i noticed my unoperated eye was wide open and the operated eye was droopy. i am supposed to have cataract surgery on the unoperated eye the 14th of december. i feel like Quasimodo. why is my unopperated eye larger than the other? it was never like this before. anyone know what it is?

Cataract surgery can cause Ptosis (droopy lids). I would discuss the problem with your Cataract surgeon, prior to your next surgery. Eyelid surgery, (blepharoplasty) is the method most often used to correct Ptosis. Unfortunately, Blepharoplasty is considered cosmetic surgery, which is generally not covered by health insurance.
