Question by The Captain: Can i join the military or are my eyes to bad?
Okay i was born with cataracts in both my eyes, and because of the way they used to do the surgery to remove cataracts i cant get an artificial lens.

However with my glasses and/or contacts i have 20/20 vision, and i was wondering if i can still join the military?
im really just interested in infantry can i do that?

Yes. As long as you have glasses and your eyes are correctable to 20/20 you should be allowed it. But it will limit your jobs.

Question by Hmmmm: Cataract Symptoms?
…are extreme headaches and fainting some of the symptoms?

Best answer:

Answer by mlgable
No these are not any of the symptoms.
If you are having these problems see your doc ASAP. Sounds like migraines to me.

Question by Alfredo: My eye color in one eye is changing. Is there anything I can do to stop or reverse it?
I was born with cataracts in both eyes. My vision in my right eye is significantly worse than the left. My eyes are dark brown. I have been wearing one contact in my right eye since age 12. I don’t wear one in my left eye because the vision can’t be corrected. I’m 25 now and my right eye is getting lighter and now it is noticeable and people are starting to comment on it.
Does it make me more or less attractive?

Best answer:

Answer by Lacey G
Everyone’s irises lighten over time. It is usually not noticeable until a person reaches a ripe old age and is more noticeable in people with blue or green eyes, but it’s understandable that you would be outside the norm.

I’d say the only thing you can do about it is to switch your right contact to a colored prescription lens and then get a matching colored lens for your left eye.

Or if your comments seem to be mostly from women and of the “oh wow, I’ve never seen that before” variety I wouldn’t worry about it.

Question by gldnsilnc: Is there any evidence that anti-oxidant vitamins help reduce the growth of cataracts?

Best answer:

Answer by DavidK93
In addition to widespread anecdotal recommendations that antioxidants help fight cataracts, there is some evidence. For example, a study was published in the Journal of Nutrition in December of 2004, showing that antioxidants protected eyes from ultraviolet radiation, which is known to be a cause of cataracts.

Question by Maddy: Do cataracts in horses get worse over time?
I am looking at a 4yr old mare who has cataracts. She sees well enough and jumps without a problem. The problem is I have had problem horses before where they got injured and never made a full recovery. I don’t want to make the mistake of buying a horse that is only going to get worse. So my question is; Do cataracts in horses get worse over time?

Extra information on the subject would be great also! :)
