Let me start by stating that I am 22 years old and have lived with this condition all my life. I was born with a cataract in my left eye. Doctors told my mother that it was caused by ear drops used while she was pregnant. When I was around 16 I had laser surgery to remove the cataract. If I remember correctly, the doctor stated that they broke up most of it but it was too thick to remove it all. But this proceedure made light to another problem…I was told that because I was so old at the time, the nerves in my eye never had a chance to develope, so I would never have vision in that eye. I’m just wondering if it would be worth while for me to spend time attemping to develope my eye and how to go about it. I use to use big flash cards and cover my good eye to read them. Thanks in advance.

what could this mean? I’ve seen a dr about minor halos, glare, blur, and starburst effect I get from light sources. I’ve got an awful dry eye problem that began right before the light sensitivity began…the light sensitivity is worse at night but noticable in the day too and I’ve been told not to wear contacts anymore because of dry eyes though my perscription is not the issue… I had several tests including an OCT and the typical check for glaucoma, cataracts, and proper eye pressure.. However, for those tests my eyes were dilated, and that simply multiplies the problems I’m having so they don’t see anything out of the ordinary in the tests. Does anyone know what might be going on??

I have a medical background and I suppose knowing too much can be a bad thing! I have a cataract in both eyes. The one in my right eye is BAD. The surgeon said it is “The worst I’ve seen in the civilized world.” The one in the left eye is getting worse seemingly by the day. I have no real vision in my right eye except for lights and motion. They are using Versed and fentanyl for “sedation.” I’ve neen on alprazolam and hydrocodone for years and, obviously, developed tolerances. Yes, I listed the meds on the surgery form. I was told it’s okay to be on these and still receive the IV sedation. Any opinions? Also, anyone ever had this procedure? I’m on pre-op drops (antibiotic & antiinflammatory). Any words of encouragement would be great! Thanks.

Heard there is a new techinque where eye drops are used for an anesthetic effect instead of an injection and the whole process takes just 15 minutes.

Three days ago, I started seeing almost perfectly rectangular streaks from light, especially when it gets dark. I called the doctor’s office and was told it’s normal to be seeing these and that it may last for a month or so. I’ve been using the eye drops as directed, no straining, etc….My TWO questions are: 1. Why would these streaks NOT be there for a few days and THEN begin later? I’d think my eye was getting better. 2. I’m using PREDNISOLONE drops and noticed my face getting fuller. (I’m using them QID)…Can THAT much be getting absorbed systemically to produce “moon-face” already (7 days in, post-op)?
THANK YOU!
