I would be interested in you experiences of this surgery and any details of the place where it was done if you where happy with the quality and price Thanks
Seemed high to me have seem some people quoting £1400 -£1800. Thanks for your thoughts

Sure is a good price – for the operating surgeons!! With respect, and depending on the age of the dog involved, unless you have this sort of money to burn, I’d not bother. The first sense, for a dog (other than maybe a sight-hound) is their sense of smell. I’ve had elderly dogs with cataracts and they have lived perfectly normal lives, obviously not seeing as well as before, but well enough that they weren’t bumping into things! Obviously their eyes were bluey, but looks aren’t everything. Personally I’d not put an older dog through this surgery, and certainly not for this sort of money, which is probably correct nevertheless.

Add – I’d always get a second opinion on the condition of your dog, in any case.

I’ve never been able to clearly see out of my left eye. I was born with a cataract having it fixed as a baby, then I had a muscle tightened in my eye at 6, retina detachment at 9, and a tube put in at 14 due to high pressure in my eye. I can see only about a 20/400 out of that eye and 20/20 out of the other. I was wondering if LASIK or any other corrective surgery could improve my eye sight?

That eye cannot be corrected with LASIK since it never developed.

My father recently received cataract surgery and the doctors said that his right eye will clear up, but it hasn’t for longer than they said. In short they made a fault and my father made 2500 for the surgery out of his pocket and 6000 for the insurance company to pay. We decided that if his eye doesn’t clear up in a couple of weeks we will consult a lawyer for a lawsuit. I was wondering generally for whoever knows, what is the average time we have before our claim is invalid, or how much do we have until we can file the claim? My father received the surgery in August and late July, for both his eyes, however one eye sees far and the other near. They said to change it may be more risky and he might lose his sight. So we decided to not change it. So how long do we have? Thank you, all answers are appreciated, thanks for the help.

Doesn’t sound like medical malpractice to me. No lawyer is going to touch that case.

I have just been diagnosed with having cataracts. I am just wondering how long I can go before having to be operated on. So far they are not bothering my vision too much. Optometrist says they are moderate. Does anybody know the answer? Thanks for any information you might have.

It varies from person to person.

It depends how fast they decide to develop to the point where it really interferes with your vision.

Could be months, could be a year or two

1 year ago had corneal erosion in left eye, cause unknown, treated with steroids for eye by opthamologist. since then eyesight got real bad. re-examined by opthamologist, said need surgery for cataracts in affected eye-likely caused by steroid treatment. right eye has gone from near sighted to far sighted and affected eye just hard to see out of- with any glasses or correction. (also, i tested negative for diabetes). since both eyes seem to have something changing, wondering if it could be anything but cataracts causing problems and changes and should i get a 2nd opinion before surgery. no insurance so all out of pocket.

My daughter seems to have tear in her eye all the time……and I see some crusty marks on the outer corner of her eye in the mornings……and she seems to be itchy, she always rubs her left eye….her ped says it could be blocked tear duct…am worried as its the eye and my mom had to go thru cataract surgery and I have heard its hereditary…..has anyone else experienced this?
Thank you all. I took her to the doc today and they said it could just be the allergy and she doesn’t have a pink eye.

procedure does not take long and is done under local in adults

anonymous, best of all would be for you to visit your eye surgeon for guidance. Eye drops, sometimes called “artificial tears” are several types. You may benefit by switching to a long-lasting gel rather than the shorter acting thin liquid drops. Itching may be due to an allergic response.
