Is It Possible To Develop Undeveloped Nerves In Your Eye?

Let me start by stating that I am 22 years old and have lived with this condition all my life. I was born with a cataract in my left eye. Doctors told my mother that it was caused by ear drops used while she was pregnant. When I was around 16 I had laser surgery to remove the cataract. If I remember correctly, the doctor stated that they broke up most of it but it was too thick to remove it all. But this proceedure made light to another problem…I was told that because I was so old at the time, the nerves in my eye never had a chance to develope, so I would never have vision in that eye. I’m just wondering if it would be worth while for me to spend time attemping to develope my eye and how to go about it. I use to use big flash cards and cover my good eye to read them. Thanks in advance.

Look at this site linked from the American Academy of Ophthalmologyhttp://www.eyecareamerica.org/eyecare/co…
It explains a condition called amblyopia that can develop due to cataracts and the treatment for it-most successful in children if caught before age 7, but some adults do respond to the treatment
Amblyopia is:
Any condition that affects normal use of the eyes and visual development can cause amblyopia. In many cases, the conditions associated with amblyopia may be inherited.
Amblyopia has three major causes. It occurs most commonly because of strabismus, or misaligned eyes. Another cause is refractive error, which means one eye is out of focus because it is more nearsighted, farsighted, or astigmatic than the other.
The other main cause of amblyopia is cataract or other disease that causes clouding of the eye’s naturally clear lens. Any factor that prevents a clear image from being focused inside the eye can lead to the development of amblyopia in a child. This is often the most severe form of the condition

Doctors just don’t want to give you false hope and get sued. Truth of the matter is you can develop the nerves all you want, the problem is that your brain’s optical section has basically been ignoring the input from that eye and increasing its reading of the input of the good eye. To train your brain to recognize the other eye will only make your vision worse as it will cause complications in the large amounts of nerve connections in your occipital lobe. It might just be best to use the other eye when you can’t use your better eye. Most people only use one eye most of the time anyways, and the other eye serves as a backup mechanism.
Good Luck!
