My Lab Has An Eye Problem, It Seems He Can’t Make Tears So They Get Clogged Up With This Goo Like Material.?

the vet gave me some “neo-poly-bac hydro” cream but it doesn’t seem to be doing anything. He also gave me some eye drops that appear to be doing a little bit but not much. My question is what else can i do about this ? He doesn’t think it’s that big a deal but it clogs his eyes up so bad ,he can’t even see. I have to take a q-tip and scoop it out once in a while. This problem just started out of the blue, I thought it was an infection. I know many will say, take him to another vet and I probably will, but I was curious if anyone else has seen this condition? To me it looks almost like cataracts once its full of that goo substance

Ask the vet to test for tear production,if he hasn’t already. If he is not producing enough tears, drops such as cylosporin are needed for the rest of his life

honestly, you probably should take him to another vet… ive seen excessive eye boogies before, but if you think its really bad then thats probably your only option… when you see them though, make sure you tell them what the first vet gave you so they dont give you the same stuff… the only other thing i can suggest is wiping his eyes with a warm damp wash cloth

It might be one of 2 things. It could be an allergy or the tear ducts are clogged and they will have to be flushed out by a Vet

ask your vet to refer you to a canine eye specialist

My dog has a similar problem, but idk if his eyes would get that gooey, because either me or my mom were wiping them everytime we see a trace. My vet told me it was allergies (if the whites of his eyes are red or pink) and to get children’s liquid Benadryl and give him a teaspoon once a day.
Check the whites of his eyes and if they are red or pink, try children’s Benadryl. My dog never had eye problems until suddenly a couple months ago. Dogs can develop allergies like humans can, fine one day and allergic the next. I use a little squirt tube like thing for my dog since handing him a teaspoon of medicine would be way too messy, and it has the measurements right on it.
