Yes doing both eyes simultaneously ( or same-day surgery) for cataract is possible. However, most eye doctors don’t want to do this. After the first surgey, it is advisable to wait a couple of days before doing the other eye to observe your first eye’s response to surgery. This will allow your eye doctor to make the necessary adjustment/correction/precaution if there’s a need (e.g. few patient has bad reaction to a certain type of introcular lens implant). Also it protects the patient (and the surgeon) just in case there’s some “failure in the system” (i.e.In same-day surgey– What if your eye gets infected? Most likely the other eye will also get infection because it was opened up on the same day, in the same OR, probably with the same instrument, etc.)
