yes, after surgery the docs often leave the postertior capsule of the lens intact, to support the vitreous and sometime that capsule develops cataract called, “after catarct” and to clear this u ve to undergo Nd yag laser therapy.

  1. Ria says:

This does happens sometimes and is attirbuted to poor surgical technique. The lens has a capsule, usually the capsule on the back of lens is kept intact in the eye and the rest of lens material and capsule part in front of lens is removed during cataract surgery. If some part of lens is left clinging to the back capsule then over time it may again cause cataract.
So a second surgery or laser may be required.

The lens of the eye is encased in a capsule, like an M&M; when we do cataract surgery we take off the front shell and the inside of the shell but we leave behind the posterior shell (this is where the implant sits). Cells will sometimes collect on the posterior capsule and cause a haze. This happens in 40% of patient’s that have had cataract surgery!!!! It just happens. The laser procedure takes about 5 minutes to perform and is painless!!!
