  1. Dr.Mihir Shah says:

Usually after an uncomplicated cataract surgery one can resume physical activities after two weeks.Do consult your doctor before doing so.

  2. David Richardson, MD says:

I agree with Dr. Shaw that two weeks is a reasonable amount of time to wait after uncomplicated cataract surgery using a standard intraocular lens (IOL). I also agree that it is important to confirm this time with your surgeon as each surgeon has his or her routine that you should adhere to.

If, however, you choose an advanced IOL (such as the Alcon Toric or B&L Crystalens) your surgeon may want you to wait up to a month before resuming such vigorous activities. These IOLs require exact placement and orientation in the eye. Until the eye has sufficiently healed (essentially “shrink-wrapped”) the IOL in place, it is vulnerable to movement which would reduce the effectiveness of the IOL.

    Sincerely,

    David D. Richardson, MD
