My mother needs cataract surgery and she does not have insurance. What can she do?

The hospital is going to charge her $3,750 up front and the surgeon will charge her $850. As far as she knows she doesn’t qualify for any government assistance due to the fact she makes just barely over the limits to qualify. Any suggestions would be considered extremely appreciated and helpful.

I have a full time job. I’m a U.S. Marine. I appreciate you judging me by my question too.

Why don’t you get a part time job and support her?

I agree that Monica could be more constructive in her answer. It would be difficult for anyone to come up with $4,600 in this economy.
Where is your mother located? The reason I ask is that the hospital fee is almost three times the charge at the hospital and surgery center I use. I will say that her surgeon has quoted a very competitive fee. Still, in my area the cash fee for cataract surgery including the surgical center fee, anesthesiologist’s fee, and surgeon’s fee would be in the range of $3,500-4,200 with a standard IOL.
Sincerely,
