Just laugh—-doesn’t do any good to cry.
Julie Andrews turns 69 -
To commemorate her 69th birthday on October 1 last year,
Actress/vocalist, Julie Andrews
made a special appearance at Manhattan’s Radio City Music Hall
for the benefit of the AARP.
One of the musical numbers she performed was
“My Favourite Things” from the legendary movie,
“Sound Of Music”.
Here are the lyrics she used:
Maalox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,
Bundles of magazines tied up in string,
These are a few of my favourite things.
Cadillac’s and cataracts, and hearing aids and glasses,
Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses,
Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,
These are a few of my favourite things.
When the pipes leak,
When the bones creak,
When the knees go bad,
I simply remember my favourite things,
And then I don’t feel so bad.
Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions,
No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions,
Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring,
These are a few of my favourite things.
Back pains, confused brains, and no need for sinnin’,
Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin’,
And we won’t mention our short shrunken frames,
When we remember our favourite things.
When the joints ache,
When the hips break,
When the eyes grow dim,
Then I remember the great life I’ve had,
And then I don’t feel so bad.
Ms. Andrews received a standing ovation from the
crowd that lasted over four minutes
and
repeated encores!

That is soooooo sweet!
I have loved Julie Andrews all my life! (I’m not QUITE a senior citizen, yet). Grew up with My Fair Lady in the record player. Then Mary Poppins. Yup. She’s a lady of great class.
Some interesting REALLY old footage of her on youtube, for those interested. Like, when she was about 13!

I liked her in SOB.
That was the first time and only she went topless.
I had waited for years to see what her boobs looked like.
It was truly worth the wait.
Thank you Julie!
(actully, I should probably thank her husband Blake Edwards, it was he who convinced her to show her boobs)

I’m a life long fan, well at least since third grade when Mary Poppins was released and I thought I could sing like her, and I could sort of, english accent and all. I’ve watch The Sound of Music many times, one of my favorite all time movies.

I love Julie Andrews. I first saw her on Broadway as Eliza Dolittle in “My Fair Lady”. She was great in that. Then “The Sound of Music”.
That song is hilarious. Except the knitting needles part. Not all knitters are old.

Yeah! Suzie – I actually saw this on the TV – she was amazing! No I am not a big fan of hers, although I do appreciate her talents. The show however, was most entertaining – and this song was hilarious!

Couldn’t stand Mary Poppins or Sound of Music.
Loved her in “The Americanization of Emily,” “Victor, Victoria,” and pretty much everything after that.

Suzie this is great, I sent it to several of my friends . I am going to print it out for my husband cousin who doesn’t have a computer.

Yes, I’m a Julie Andrews fan.
This may be an amusing parody; but it was not performed by Julie Andrews. This parody has been circulating around the web since at least 2001. It’s a bit of a hoax.

That is so cool — thanks for posting it.
I always did like Julie Andrews. I once read an article that when she was first starting out, her agent wanted her to have a nose job. In fact, told her she’d never make it to the top unless she did that. She refused and has since be told (many times) that her nose is what helped her — she did not look like every other actress with this teeny, tiny nose and it gave her character.
Thanks again for the post. Have a star!

Julie Andrews and The Sound of Music have epitomized my idea of what a perfect world is like. Several years after seeing the movie several times my Sweetie and I visited Saltzburg and the home of the Von Trapp Family as well as Leopold’s Scrone that was depicted as the home of The Von Trapp Family. I took a picture of the ornate wrought iron gate near the lake where the home was located and always intended to have a similar gate made for our yard. That was an idea that has not become a reality for me but, I have not given up on it quite yet. While in Saltzburg we also visited Mozart’s birthplace as well as the Cathedral where his father was in charge of music. In the late thirties or early forties my parents were fortunate enough to see a performance of the Von Trapp Family Singers in Beaumont, Texas. I am, I think, more than just a fan of Julie Andrews, based on her performance in The Sound of Music. To me, this movie is another instance of God whispering to us that he still loves us.

That was really nice and thank you for sharing it with us. I do like Julie Andrews and have been a life long fan of hers, one of the great actresses. I cannot remember who it was but someone who has acted beside her in a film said that Julie Andrews swears like a trooper all the time. I was quite shocked when I heard that as Julie Andrews always comes over as the perfect lady, nice to see there it a little flaw in her. Swearing or not it does not change anything for me I still think she is great!
